Prize to the worst swim parent goes to?

At one meet, I wanted to time, in part so my 7 yo wouldn’t have to find her way through some unfamiliar facility alone, but parents from other teams took our team’s desígnated volunteer slots before we even got the info.
Unless there’s a real reason like COVID, people should be allowed to watch their kids/grandkids/siblings swim. Our club always required everyone to volunteer a certain number of hours anyway.

Yes, yes, and yes!

(I also have a younger swimmer.)

No, no, and no. The activity is not entertainment for you. It is an experience for the children. How gross to want to watch. It's like the weirdos that want cameras in classrooms. Do you want an audience in you yoga class watching you learn a new skill. Voyeurs.

Parents dominating children's activities is over. The vendors have learned alot over the last 2 years...boundaries among other things. No more hanging out. It's too much liability and toxic adults. Kids are learning more and advancing faster. Do not expect to ever be allowed back in.

Oh, I forgot, the mess in the stands etc. Has cut way down and less staff to coddle the parents needed. Overall a much better model.

I would imagine that they won’t be able to maintain no spectators indefinitely, but they might be able to stretch it through the end of this year round season. I would also not be surprised if there are changes to the spectator rule for the long course season.

I think it may go on a very long time. There is just no need to have spectators. I fully expect to be limited and ticketed going forward. Maybe small number if guests at meet and closed practices forever.

Have better cameras and graphics. I am actually able to see my swimmers better with certain venues then I would in person. My kids prefer having more space. Let's face it, certain venues don't have the space for both athletes and spectators.

I also feel for those with 8&U and wanting to be there. So I would say that mini meets would be the only meets to allow spectators and only after all volunteer positions have been filled first.

My kids like to look up, smile, and wave to me before each race when I’m there…so for that reason I like to be there.

Do I need to be there? No. Does the kid like me to be there? Yes.

I totally understand that not having spectators has been easier, has helped fill volunteer slots, and eliminated a lot of crazy parent behavior, but there is no sport that is going to just completely abolish spectators. Swimming is unusual in that it currently isn’t allowing spectators at most meets, but at least Covid is still a legitimate reason given that the meets are indoors with limited space to distance. Once Covid is less of a concern they will not be able to continue to not allow spectators.

Is there such a things as spectator police? Will someone come physically remove you or ask you to leave or do folks go about their business? Lots of things are "prohibited" but folks do it anyway.

There is no need for spectators at any youth sporting event, yet all of them but for swimming at this point are allowing them.

No so. Basketball is down to 1 guest. Dance is closed except for performances. Not allowed in gymnastics. Not allowed in karate. Notallowed in music.

The refs at the moco eec basketball game called out some nuts parents this weekend. Patience for parent antics are at a all time low. I expect that enforcement will come as compliance with the rules dwindles.

Didn’t you just prove the point by noting that parents are being allowed to attend dance recitals and basketball games? I don’t care what they do regarding practice, if banning parents makes life easier, sure go ahead, but I don’t think there will be an indefinite ban on spectators at meets.
