You’re not going to dig up anything on him, hard as you’re trying to kick up nonexistent dirt. He’s a good, smart man. I believe he will choose the right permanent superintendent and won’t rubber stamp Dr. McKnight because of KID Museum. While I’m sure that he will want someone who believes in experiential learning, I have no doubt that he will do the right thing and won’t allow himself to be browbeaten by the board chair or anyone else. I do think the board chair and others chose him, however, because they assume he has a vested interest in keeping Dr. McKnight on board and can be bullied, but that’s not what he is all about. He will make a thoughtful choice and vote the way he thinks is right. I think they may be in for a surprise!

I agree with you except for the bolded. Not sure where you are getting that idea.

The same place much of DCUM gets things - their overactive imaginations.

Why do you feel they're so sold on McKnight? I mean she seems fine or even an improvement over the recent supers but I don't see that she's preordained or anything.

+1. I think an experienced superintendent from a smaller district with a good record of success could be very appealing to the board members.

The question is, has anyone fitting that description applied for the job?

It’s fun seeing Scott Joftus and other BOE members promote themselves on DCUM. How exciting!

She is essentially an internal, minority candidate, within a county that appears to value equity over everything else

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm just a parent who thought he was a good choice. Which person did you think they should have appointed instead?

NP: I also supported Scott Joftus wholeheartedly, bz I know him personally (he coached one of my kids' sports teams for a couple of years). He is a selfless guy who gives back to his community. I also work in the education field & have chatted with him about his ed consulting work. He's smart & we are fortunate that he threw his hat in the ring. I could not name all the other candidates bz I didn't know them personally, 19:06, but I assure you that there are plenty of parents in the Whitman & outside communities (I'm BCC) who know Joftus personally & are delighted that he was appointed. I don't think his wife's role is a conflict of interest, personally. She runs a nonprofit museum, also kid focused. I think the PP with an axe to grind is just searching for some dirt to throw.

It's DCUM; the troll farms love to throw dirt.

Then you know nothing about ethics or conflicts of interest. His wife just got $1.4M of MCPS Operating Budget funds in September.
Nothing to think about. That is a conflict of interest for her husband. He didn’t disclose it. That was unethical.

What is it that you fear will happen with him on the board during the next year? And I will ask again, which person did you think the board should have appointed?
