That view also aligns with Dr. Kendi's anti-racist teachings. |
Why would anyone not be? This is plain old history. |
How do you know? The process is just now more opaque. |
Just to clarify… redlining was not created by banks it was created by the federal government. They created a map for the banks and “redlined” neighborhoods loans would not by secured by the fed. |
| I’ve had to listen to my conservative extended family about this nonstop. I do understand where they’re coming from. (Everyone- liberal or moderate should try to understand where conservatives are coming from). I think CRT or watered down CRT that is being taught in K-12 is often taught poorly. It’s one thing to look at laws and history to see racism, it’s another to blame kids for the sins of their fathers. My kids come from poor white families in poor white rural towns. To say they’ve gotten ahead solely because of racism is disingenuous. An aunt was fired up because her son was told that he was privileged for having two married parents. And another kid suffered trauma because his parents weren’t married and he should be given more because of that. The words “privilege” and “trauma” and “crt” are so overused they’ve lost meaning. |
So is the word “blame”. I have yet to hear a verified example of kids being”blamed” for the “sins of their fathers”. I should note, though, that I see “blame” as something different from “benefitting” . I agree that “privilege”, “trauma “ and “CRT” should be explicitly defined by anyone who uses those terms. https://www.newsweek.com/video-virginia-man-unsure-critical-race-theory-watched-over-3-million-times-1644884 |
| The academy has done humankind a great service by making people more aware of perspectives/lens, but they haven’t done a great job in helping people, especially non-college teachers, apply that understanding. For example, depending on what you’re trying to accomplish, some perspectives/methods/ways are more helpful than others. So, if I’m trying to get from NOVA to DC, there may be various routes, but depending on my criteria/constraints, some paths may be better. Do I want the fastest route? The most scenic? The shortest? Similarly, we can think about what we want our schools or government to accomplish. Depending on those goals, some paths are better. All that said, it is not fair to ask kids younger than middle school to contemplate these issues and trade offs. Science/psychology and most traditional societies identify the age of accountability as 12 or older. |
| What a weird question. College is where you learn about all sorts of things. And it's not up to parents to suppress or make decisions about what their 18+ year old kids learn. |
So maybe ask yourself what “we” wanted our schools to accomplish — and what impact those so-called “facts” and “truths” had and have on non-white kids under 12. |
What do you think CRT is? I have not seen anyone who opposes CRT on here define what about CRT that they find so objectionable. If you are ok with everyone studying Black history, then what exactly is so objectionable about CRT? Don't you realize that you probably learned some CRT when you were studying black history? IMO, people are just triggered by the CRT label. If you called it "black history in America and the impacts of that history today", there would probably be less objections. |
Are we talking about a class called CRT students can chose as an elective or something else? |
DP. I’m wondering if it’s as simple as some people being completely unable to tolerate the idea of “history “ that doesn’t center on themselves and their viewpoints. “Black History” might be more palatable because it’s not generally required, and it’s not called “US History / American History “ . I think some of the objections are simply to the idea that non-white people and non-white viewpoints are inextricably interwoven throughout every aspect of US History — from economics to politics to: who has been protected by the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and our systems of government and culture and who has not been protected. |
| Why would any educated person want to be ignorant of a major theory like CRT.? You can't even agree or disagree if you haven't been educated about what the theory says. |
| If it’s an elective who cares…..it’s up to the student. If it’s mandatory then of course not…..utterly ridiculous. |
|
We don't know about it because "CRT" isn't typically being taught even to undergraduates.
Step away from FOX people. |
