My reason as well. FCPS School Board is a disgrace and this was the earliest opportunity to register disappointment with their incompetence and hypocrisy.

I cringe now when I see a photo of me dressed like a Native American for the school assembly. I had forgotten all about those classroom activities until about 3 years ago when I saw a photo at my parent's house while my mom was reorganizing. We did stupid things years ago. We had no idea what cultural appropriation was, we used the r word for everything along with the f gay slur, we also said that everything was "gay", and I remember a trend in college where people said the word n-i-k-k-a in place of the n word. But we grew up and we learned that those things were wrong, we learned why they were wrong, and we stopped doing them.

I work closely with police agencies due to my job and I see constant mismanagement and overall incompetence hinder the outcome of court cases. Defunded to me is not a dismantling of the police at all (I also don't think that will ever happen; I mean, look at how Minneapolis voted yesterday), but reallocating funds within the department to add in mental health experts as well as for more training for officers.

My most conservative view, IMO, is that I don't think weed should be legal. I also back the 2nd Amendment, so maybe that's my most conservative view?

This is not a joke or brush-off or gotcha. If you're genuinely interested in better understanding of the moderate, right-of-center mentality, read Ross Douthat's column in the NYT.

I'd recommend the Commentary Magazine podcast, Three Martini Lunch podcast or Ruthless podcast - none of them are fans of Trump and bash crazy republicans, and generally call balls and strikes. I also listen to Breaking Points podcast to get an alternative view of the issues without the bias and sneering.

I would add Potomac Watch podcast by the WSJ to that list as well.

What I'm seeing is a lot of education points, so maybe that's where the disconnect is because I don't have any kids. I've been learning what all these acronyms mean, though... VPMI, G&T, VDOE, TJ, etc.

Voted democratic in last 2 general elections and don’t regularly vote in state/local elections. Then COVID hit. I watched the VA Democratic Governor set restrictions that were far more conservative than my family living in other states. When the kids didn’t go back to school in August 2020, I felt compelled to vote against a liberal agenda that was way too cautious and restrictive on return to school. So I voted for Youngkin.

I think getting rid of G&T and advanced math track in the name of equity was liberal and unpopular.

This is critical for many parents. I still voted for McAuliffe, but I'm not happy about the changes to math, and other parents are upset about TJ admission changes.

You’re quoting me and I voted D but not thrilled about the math thing particularly and I found the Ds disingenuous when they said it wasn’t happening. I think it was being considered and they only scrapped it when it was publicized and people were mad.

From the very start, VMPI always said that students would still be able to take AP/IB -- which inherently requires an accelerated math path.

They spent a short amount of time during one info session discussing tracking. They also had a link or two that discussed tracking under "additional resources" section of the website. They never included tracking as a bullet point item or on the infographic. It was truly a minor discussion point that was floated around (and quickly sunk).

It was all very early in the process.

Stop acting like it was "happening".

This might come as a shock to you, but not having kids doesn't mean you can ignore education. The children in your community will be adults someday. Do you want functioning adults or government welfare addicts?

You were what on elementary school or middle school. Northam was an adult in med school. He should have done better.
