I didn't say she was racist, but she's made the ultimate patriarchal bargain as a Black woman. When women hold up the patriarchy they are rewarded by conservative men. Look how far she's gotten by being a Republican - she's breaking barriers. A lot harder to do fighting against the patriarchy. Success to women means many different things. In some cases that success on a personal level will only come by bucking their own best interests. While she can give lip service to promoting a better life for Black women now that she's Lt. Governor, if she really looked at the GOP policies, she would know that generally speaking that is not possible. She can break barriers and be a role model to some on a conservative playing field, but does the end justify the means? I think there's some cognitive dissonance going on. |
Ugh. She's conservative. That's it, that's all. She didn't make a bargain with the patriarchy. She just has different values than you. |
Sorry, you’re about a day late. |
LOL You have to twist yourself into all sorts of crazy pretzel logic to make your point. That’s when you know you have no real logic behind your argument. There is definitely cognitive dissonance going on, but it’s not with the Republicans or people who vote for Republican candidates. I’m the POC from before who will not be voting D again. |
This thread is about her being the next governor. Try to keep up. |
We need to stop teaching advanced math because you are going to hurt someone's feelings. |
| But but but I thought republicans were all racists! If you disagree with me on any slight nuance on any topic you’re a white supremacist!!! |
Dog whistle for $500, Alex? |
| Winsome Sears - an AR-15 in every school! |

+1!
Huh, did we see the same victory speech? |
Actually, my heart is not filled with vitriolic hate. Your folks on this forum want to link her to being black to you not being racist. I don't hate her. I just think she's crazy, but to each his own. So what she served. Service only matters to republicans when it suits their narrative. You love them, but don't financially support them. You love some but not others. FYI - my husband is actually retired military. He doesn't walk around with a freaking assault rifle. As a matter of fact, because of his service, he is more anti-guns. |
That's because 1/2 of VA is basically Kentucky. Also they are stupid enough to think D are trying to take away guns.... they are not. |
Oh you believe that one too. Does it hurt your feeling you don't understand margin of error? |
Well, right now Ralph Northam is the governor, and our next governor will be Glenn Youngkin, so that makes it impossible for her to be the next governor. Luckily, she will be our next Lt governor.

DP. There is a long and well-documented history of POC discriminating against people just like them, particularly in the employment context and particulars among Black people. It happens for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common is a fear on the part of the Black person that if they are perceived by their white superiors as being “too Black,” they will be blocked from further advancement. They end up going out of their way to not hire, favorably review or promote other Black people to avoid race-based retaliation by those white superiors. It’s not okay when it happens, but it’s understandable in that context. I don’t know what goes through Winsome Sears’ head to know why she takes the positions she does. But she has come up through a party that is very invested in denying the ongoing existence and impact of racism. As a Black woman, if she bucks that tradition she is toast. There is no political future for her in her party if she defies the Republican stance on race and racism. |
