When atheists raise the name Jesus instead of cursing

Anonymous
I always thought that calling out Jesus Christ when something sudden and bad happened was like appealing to God for help. My southern grandma used to say Oh My Lord. People say Oh My God. These aren’t curses.

So you’d rather target your offensiveness to one defined group? Seriously, nobody cares about the s or f words. But for people for whom the j word is an article of belief, yes it’s offensive to many although not all. You don’t get a pass for thinking the j word is somehow “less offensive.”

And if all those are ok, I don’t see why anyone should care about the c* word. It never made any sense to me why it is the nuclear ☢️ word. It’s a word. - a woman

I go by the George Carlin rule: There are no bad words. Bad thoughts, bad intentions, but no bad words.

Stop trolling and read a book or something.

Who's trolling?--I'm serious. Words aren't good or bad. There are so many more important things to be concerned about than which word someone says.

So you think the n* word isn’t bad,
and that it’s ok to call your house cleaners sp***s,
and your coworker won’t mind if you say “hey, c*nt, please review this”
and it’s ok to insult believers of all stripes by taking important names/words in vain.

You look like a ridiculous child. Grow up.

DP here. The fact that you conflate saying "GD" to those other pejoratives indicates you are certainly clueless and almost certainly a racist and a sexist. I know you probably don't think so, but you are, and you should think about that and possibly change it.

Trolly troll troll. Also, the thread header is about Jesus’ name, not GD, so get a grip on the trolling.

PP here. Not trolling, it is 100% true. Do you need it explained to you?

You’re the racist and sexist for invoking George Carlin to claim those nasty epithets don’t matter. Stop trying to put it on another poster, and stop pretending G*dda**n and Jesus have the same weight. You look like an ignorant, racist MAGAt tbh.

No, you can't follow a thread and don't know what "DP" and "PP" mean apparently. I am the one accusing the PP of being racist and sexist for equating the an interjection with a pejorative, and apparently you DO need it explained.

- Saying "Jesus Christ" as an interjection does not imply any other human being is deficient or insult them in any way.

as opposed to:

- Using the N-word insults an entire race of people and has a long history of being used in centuries of oppression.
- Using the word "sp***s" to describe Hispanic people is the same. BTW, your using "housecleaner" as your example doubles down on your racism. Mot of the housecleaners I know are from Eastern Europe and not hispanic, and I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood and none of my friends are housecleaners (but would be ok if they were).
- Saying "Hey c*nt" to a co-worker - and BTW you are a sick SOB even for thinking that is a possible example - insults a specific person, is gender-specific and therefore sexist and is not an interjection of any kind.

So you see how your logic FAILS and you are comparing apples and abject racism and sexism? Probably not. But that's because of your lack of self-awareness. Work on that and you'll be a better person, and possibly even a better Christian.

You are a racist and a sexist, as demonstrated and proved.

What a load of self-serving BS.

The whole point of this thread is that OP IS offended when you say JFC or whatever. A few other posters have said they’re offended, too. You can’t speak for them and say “nobody is insulted.” You’re insulting their deepest beliefs, so yes, you are insulting them. You’ve deliberately missed the point, like the devious nutcase you are.

The poster citing Carlin (you?) to say there are no bad words is the one who apparently sanctions the n* words. Not the PP who called her out on it with some challenging examples to test her. For the second time in a single post you show that you’re a devious, dishonest nutcase.

Congrats?

PP here. "Our cause"? How embarrassing a thing to type! You can have your "cause", I will stick with my personal beliefs, morals and opinions. And I stand 100% behind every single point. I did not say no one was offended, that is a classic strawman. People are offended by all kinds of stuff. I said to equate those examples is ludicrous as saying "Jesus Christ" when you stub your toe is not intended to insult or demean anyone, and never has been.

I am not the Carlin poster, (stated again) but I think they stated pretty clearly that it isn't the word, but the intention of its use that matters. Person I was responding to did not understand that and then tried to equate an interjection with statements whose clear intention was racist and sexist.

I actually cannot believe that this is not painfully clear, and it makes me suspect I am being trolled.

Oh, and don't call people stupid, it does not help anything. I will not respond in kind. I am better than that.

Now you’re putting words in the Carlin poster’s mouth. She never stated what you claim, she only said “there are no bad words.” You’re even misrepresenting your own post, by trying to split hairs about intent vs. the impact on someone else. Even a 6-year-old knows that THE WHOLE POINT is that if you know there’s going to be a hurtful impact on someone else, but you do it anyway, then your intent … was to hurt them.

Trolls gaslight and gish gallop. The rest of us try to hold you trolls to the facts. Glad I have plans tonight and can leave your sordid little games.

Congrats?

Signed, an agnostic who thinks nasty and stupid posters like you do a lot of damage to our cause

Stop gaslighting. Anybody here can see you what you and the Carlin poster actually wrote.

The sh** word, the f*** word, the c*** word, and any creative combination of these. You have lots of options available.

Isn’t the je*** word generally less offensive than those words?

Who is offended by those words these days? Except maybe the C word, and in places like Britain it’s in common use now.

Most people?

I think those words are still generally considered offensive to most people. And I think je*** is only considered offensive to a small group of people. And less offensive overall.

New Atheists are extremely misogynistic and racist. They don’t respect anyone. I’d advise anyone reading this forum to keep that in mind while perusing this forum. Also they apparently don’t have a lot going on IRL because they are here 24/7/365. I don’t know how they could fit the stereotype of a mean and insulting person with no life! Lol. Who would want to live like that?

I tend to agree about DCUM’s atheists being mean and being on here 24/7. Just wait for the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, they go berserk.

I know some lovely atheists in real life. The difference is, they aren’t spending their miserable lives trying to “convert” anyone else to atheism via insults. They’re actually happy.

I totally agree with your post. Being an atheist doesn’t make anyone a bad person any more than being religious makes you a good person. The person you are inside makes you who you are.

And I will point out that you just made all of this up, presented no evidence because none of it is true, and you should be ashamed. Isn’t this “bearing false witness?”
