Should it be on the radar? Sure. But to place it at the top of the list of concerns? Along with VMPI misinformation? Transparent. |
News at 11: A parent group formed to advocate for the reopening of schools last year now cares about schools staying open as their top priority! |
I find APE really impressive and helpful this year. They are pivoting to be more broadly useful, and I think this is a good thing for APS to be held more accountable.
If you look at the educational outcomes data from last year, it's clear that APE was right to be pushing for more in-person schooling -- especially last spring pre-Delta when our teachers were all vaccinated. I don't get all the APE haters, honestly. Yes, some people in that group have been loud and mean, but that's been true of every parent group I've ever encountered in Arlington. |
There are 5000 people on AEM. It's an open discussion group. Perhaps your views are not in line with those of the larger community. |
Did you watch any of the APE comments at school board meetings last year? Did you see their members' posts on social media? APE has zero credibility with me after all that. |
Plenty of us saw meeting comments by APE members and other individuals. We are capable of seeing their social media posts. We are also capable of distinguishing between APE as an organization and the separate actions of individual members in their personal capacity rather than on behalf of APE. |
But where is that line? When they all got up there and screamed at the board, the superintendent, teachers and even jeered Latina parents? |
See the post to which you are responding. |
Remember when APE denounced the bad SB meeting behavior of “individuals”? Oh yeah. I don’t remember that either.

Reading this thread. |
I think I vomited a little in the back of my throat |
How many more threads and pages before Jeff gives APE its own forum? |
Yes, I saw some of the APE crazies on AEM. I also saw some of the SRS crazies on AEM. Honestly I did not watch the school board meetings because I just couldn't stomach it all. Last year was a total disaster. Arlington did so much harm to kids by staying virtual so long. And honestly, I've been through a few boundary processes now and there are always parents who yell at the board in those meetings. The SRS people were being extreme on the other side with all the talk of dead teachers and students, etc. It was ugly in both directions. I considered myself a neutral bystander last year, not aligning with either group. But again, APE is moving in a direction now I think is good. |
Love the way they report on SB meeting with the chart showing minutes devoted to each topic. |
I agree. It lays out what the school board is and is not interested in addressing in very clear terms. |
