| My 15 year old niece has been in so many fights for 2 years. The last fight resulted in serious injury of the victim. I don’t condone fights at all, but this time she was tried as an adult, which made the whole family mad. I and my sister (her mother) spoke to the prosecutor directly insisting she be tried as a juvenile. The prosecutor said she has been tried as a juvenile so many times and is unable to be rehabilitated. I said teens brains are not fully developed so it takes time. At one point he said “adult actions have adult consequences” and I replied “teen actions have teen consequences”. It’s not fair the town doesn’t trust her to be out after 10 PM without an adult but thinks she is mature enough to foresee the consequences of her actions 20+ years later. I know a 17 year old kid who is being tried as a juvenile for shoplifting. This isn’t his first time shoplifting and he is older than my niece. He is being tried as a juvenile. What? Shoplifting isn’t as bad as fighting? |
| Sounds like your whole family are idiots. No, shoplifting is not the same as fighting in which the victim is seriously injured. Your niece has gotten into many fights. She wants to fight like a grown up, then she needs to be tried as one. A juvenile dentition center will do nothing for her. She is beyond repair in there. Your family needs to get together to remove this girl from her environment. A new place, New friends, a new attitude |
| What your niece did is awful and it doesn’t seem like the family has a very good handle on things. That said, a 15 yo should NOT be tried as an adult. |
| Be mad all you want. Instead of being mad at the prosecutor, maybe try dealing with the fact that your niece is violent, that she is seriously hurting other people, and that being tried as a juvenile "many times" isn't a deterrent for her. |
| Stupidity and lack of accountability must run in your fa |
| *family. |
| What has your family done to address your niece's violent behavior? |
|
What is wrong with your niece?
Abuse? Neglect? Mental illness? Or just mean with bad character? A girl getting into one physical fight is very unusual. A girl getting i to multiple physical fights and seriously injuring others is almost unheard of. Something is very wrong with her. Her family is better off directing that anger from her being tried as an adult to figuring out why she has become a sociopath. |
| Good for the prosecutor! doing his job. |
This. |
I can't believe this needs to be said, but no, shoplifting isn't as bad as fighting, especially when you are a repeat offender the the last fight resulted in a serious injury. I have to believe you are a troll, OP. I certainly hope you are. |
| Your niece is a violent offender which is why she is being tried as an adult. This is not the same as a non-violent crime such as shoplifting. Did she use a weapon? That would definitely be an adult crime. |
I was not aware that family members of the accused were able to set the parameters of the prosecution. Learn something new every day. |

Face the facts.
Your niece is a sociopath and your family has shown no ability to control her dangerous behavior. She's already seriously injured someone, she's a repeat offender, etc. If she gets another free pass and is returned to her mother, who can't control her, she's going to hurt or kill someone else. The prosecutor made the right call here. |
+1 It sounds like she has a severe mental illness. |
