A friend recently recommended this site to me as we work with our DD who is a senior this year. I had never heard of it but checked it out. In particular there is a thread for parents with kids graduating HS in 2019. The thread was started in 2015 - yes 2015, when the kids were in 9th grade.
I skipped forward a couple hundred pages and started reading and these parents are certifiable - their poor kids. https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/class-20xx-community/1732893-parents-of-the-hs-class-of-2019.html#latest |
| This site is way worse. You’ll see. |

There's actual camaraderie there. Those parents know each other really well by now and will celebrate each kid's options at the end of this whole thing, no matter what the schools are.
Over here, you'll have someone raining on your parade no matter where your kids winds up going. |
+1 I love College Confidential. I’ve gotten great info from it and he folks are very supportive. |

| There's a LOT more granularity re: specific schools on College Confidential |
| Yeah. DCUM is the cesspool of the internet. |
| Mixed bag there, but the people were generally pretty nice. I've gotten some good advice. |
| I’ve been on CC for several years now. Yes, many of the posters can be over the top but in general I find the community to be pretty helpful and supportive. I can’t say the same for DCUM. |
| Lot of hot chicks on DCUM. |
| What do you find so appalling about CC? Like others, I find it to be a very supportive community. |
| I agree that it can be a bit much but it’s much more supportive and positive than DCUM. I have gotten great advice about specific areas of interest for both of my kids. I guess because it’s not a “local” site people feel less directly competitive so they are more willing to help each other. There are also many students on there and I have virtually mentored a few students applying to my alma mater who don’t have a lot of parental support - they were very sweet. |
