Join a gym with childcare or Crossfit?

I’m a SAHM trying to make my workout schedule for the Fall. DC will be in preschool 3X a week. I do work PT so I may not always be able to workout on school days. I’m looking to tone up and strength train. I’m able to go to HIIT classes 2-3X in the early AM or after DH gets home.

I like the idea of a gym with childcare because that gives me more flexibility and is less expensive that Crossfit but I am looking to make major changes to my body prior to conceiving again.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I haven't had luck with gym daycares. They are stressful to use. I would look at your child's preschool schedule and do crossfit. orangetheory, etc.

I've used our gym daycare for several years with no problem. It's only for an hour or so.

You could also do something like ClassPass, which gives you lots of options and times. FWIW, solidcore has really made me strong, and HIIT like F45 is a great adjunct, too. But there are lots of options out there, and if the gym has good classes and equipment, that may be your best bet.

You mention wanting to strength train and tone up; CrossFit isn’t necessarily the best thing for that. They also have very limited schedules so that may effect how often you can go in.

I’d try each for a solid month then make a decision. Both places will try to get you to sign a 1 year contract, so you may as well take the time to figure out which one you’ll be able to use the most.

How old is your kid? I'd be lost without my gym daycare and it makes going to the gym that much better

CrossFit. I actually belong to both (family memebership at LA fitness that costs me $10 a month which is less than one lunch out). I love CrossFit because of the major body changes ( strength, coordination, and endurance). Plus the supportive environment and intense coaching has made it one of my best exercise experiences ever. I do go to LA Fitness because everyone I know does and it’s sort of social with some health benefit.

I started after a very difficult period when I used food and binge watching as a coping mechanism. In six weeks I lost more than 15 inches and three sizes. But even better, improved posture. Coordinated. Good balance. Stronger than I have ever been. In less than six months I went from poor physical fitness to excellent. And I only go three times a week for an hour.

If you’re considering it, many gyms offer specials for like a 6 week or 3 month trial.

Gym membership with childcare... it's so much easier when you can go "whenever" and not have to wait until your DH is home. Besides, if you do that you can hang out with DH when he is home.
How many hours do you work?

OP here. I currently work between 15-20 hours a week. I agree with other posters about not being tied to DH’s schedule in order to go workout. My DC is pretty easy going and probably wouldn’t have an issue with gym daycare.

I think I will do what other posters described and give both a try before deciding.

Barre3. Awesome childcare, and great results. Really got me back into shape quickly after my pregnancy. I was toned and under my healthy pre-pregnancy weight after 3 months of doing it.
