How much of a concern is an arrest for assault and battery?

Anonymous
10 years ago when person was in there 20s. Can’t find further charges?

Depends on the circumstances. If by some small chance it was the felony flavor (like on a cop) and not the more common class 1 misdemeanor than I would be very concerned. But if it was the later I'd still want to know the circumstances before passing judgment. Example, was he a pimp? or was he drunk and got into a fight with some guy that grabbed his GF's butt. Context matters.

I agree context matters, but pay for the full background check. What I was initially told was a youthful misdemeanor drug arrest of my ex’s then fiancée turned out to be a decade of arrests for hard drugs and prostitution. He didn’t even know himself.

Probably a bar fight

Concern for what? You are hiring this person as an employee? You are dating this person? You are this person and you plan to apply for a clearance? More context!

If it was A&B towards a woman, ANY woman, I'd leave and never return.

If it was a bar fight as mentioned above - get an explanation.

Huge concern. Huge.

It depends if it was just an arrest or an actual conviction.

You need more information. What state is the conviction in?

This. Bar fight? Men. DV? Hard pass.

"Meh", not "men"". Although that's probably accurate as well.

If you had to find this out by digging as opposed to him telling you, it's a pretty bad sign.

p

Arrest but no conviction could well indicate a false accusation. It happens.

OP here. It was an arrest . No conviction. I have no further details. He didn’t tell me. I did some research on my own. Should I ask him directly?

If it was 10 years ago and wasn’t domestic violence, get over it. Shall we dredge up every stupid thing we all did in college? Are you a saint yourself?
