| Am I crazy for cutting blueberries in half before giving them to my 2.5 year old? They seem like such perfect little choking hazards, but I am also the person who would cut my own grapes in half when I lived alone because I was afraid of choking on them with no one there to heimlich me. |
| I cut grapes, cherry tomatoes and big blueberries. The little blueberries I leave whole |
| I’ve never done it, but I’m not as anxious as you are. If it makes you feel better, no harm done. |
|
Absolutely nothing wrong with that if it helps you to feel more secure.
For me, I think cutting them makes a mess so I didn't with mine. But some kids make a huge mess eating regardless so no harm done

2.5? Yes crazy |
| No |
| I don’t like the word crazy but it’s entirely unnecessary. Your 2.5 year old can certainly chew and swallow blueberries (and grapes for that matter) without choking. Save yourself the trouble. |
| I did when dd was younger but at 2.5 years just a reminder to chew one at a time. |
| Yes, I would definitely say you're crazy. |
| It has nothing to do with chewing ability - it is about aspirating a grape or large blueberry and blocking the windpipe. Google the three year old in DC a year or so ago who choked to death on s grape in front of his father and nanny with 911 on the phone. |
Blueberries generally aren’t large enough and some kids do have trouble chewing at that age. My kid did b/c of low tone. Do what works for you, op. |
| Yeah, a little crazy, but if it makes you feel better, go for it. |
| For my 2.5 year old we cut grapes but not blueberries. |
Same. |
He was 18 months and lived in my neighborhood. My daughter was the exact same age at the time and it scared me so much I still cut her grapes and she’s turning 5. And I don't care who thinks I’m crazy. |
