ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Probably a rubber stamp vote of the draft gets finalized but "U.S. Soccer will formally approve the implementation process in the coming weeks following feedback from members and stakeholders on a draft version of the plan."

Issues are being manufactured on every page.
Starting with the massive trapped player catastrophe

Back in the day when this happened my DD was a trapped player. She switched teams and ended up D1. She was a late year bday and had to go play down. It worked out perfectly,

I just read the full USSF statement yesterday. It said they would release implementation plans in March. I don't know hwy anyone expects anything before that, and I don't know why anyone expect anything other than SY implementation plans at that point, since thats pretty much what they said.

Why were people talking about “before the end of the year”? Where did that language come from?

May have been US club.

It was from the joint release by youth soccer, it said that they would make a formal and public decision by the end of the calendar year. I think that was misinterpreted as an implementation plan. The decision has been made but there won't be anything formal until early March. I think people expect ECNL to speak on this somewhat as it is a pretty monumental moment. It sounded to me, from the podcast, that they will be working with USSF on the implementation, which is what is best for all parties involved.

IDK why people think ECNL is this vigilante who’s going against US soccer? Yes they probably can do whatever they want they want to be seen as team players.

ECNL will not do anything substantial for trapped players next year. They will start the process in Fall 26. The only thing I heard may be implemented is trapped players will be allowed to play in tournaments with 2012s under USYS, US Club umbrella while their team is playing high school.

Will not be allowed for league games or in ECNL under any capacity than the rules they have in place currently.

That sounds like USYS state cups, regionals, and nationals -- a structure which preECNL clubs often participate in at the junior state cups level. Would be interesting to have those clubs take players from what is essentially the 2nd year of the national system under 11v11 (if 25-26) to do that.

That would be a way to implement it slowly, start with preECNL under the the USYS system.

When they only allow a few age groups of trapped players to adjust, it crowds teams of full rosters. Accommodating trapped players has a domino effect. ECNL either needs to go big or go home.

Agree. If they aren't able to allow ECNL National or RL trapped player movement (even a max of 2 players) at all ages they may as well wait until Fall 26 when everyone can move.

I don’t believe ECNL will allow anything different than their 2 games per trapped player rule. It will only be for 2011 Q3/4 players to play in tournaments if the tournaments and clubs want to allow it. No mandate will be in place.

Some clubs may not want to deal with upsetting parents some may say not care if it’s I the best interest of their club long term. Much will
Be determined once official rules and the plan going forward is released.

If anyone has a problem with US Club trying to give next years trapped 8th graders an olive branch there is something wrong with you. If the plan is full implementation for Fall 26 no players other than 2011s will have to be trapped so it won’t effect them going forward.

It really won’t have any domino effect on teams if during high school season clubs add in a tournament or two for the trapped players who usually have to practice with the top 8th grade (2012) team anyways.

Also a good chance to see what team would look like going forward. Is a win-win for everyone.

When I say tournaments I do not mean state level tournaments.
