| If not. How my DC take this who will be going eight grade? |
| Why would an 8th grader take the PSAT? |
| I don’t mean to be rude, but are you a native English speaker and from this country? You might be unclear as to what the PSAT is. It’s a practice for the SAT and is administered in high school. |
| OP, some schools have ninth graders take a practice one. That’s soon enough. |
My daughters MS gave the opportunity to take the PSAT to everyone taking geometry. |
| There is a PSAT 8/9 now for kids who have completed algebra. Another way for them to make money. It does give practice and gives an idea of their score but it is totally unnecessary. If you need it for a scholarship or application you would just register for it through the SAT. |
| A few years ago, my DD took the official PSAT as an eighth grader. Her MS didn’t offer at the time so I had to call around HS to arrange it. Why is your DC taking one? |
Not that many eighth graders taking geometry. |
What was the advantage of taking it as an 8th grader? |
I know that some schools all the eight graders are given the opportunity to take PSAT. One of the teachers told us that PSAT is a good indicator of how the students may perform in SAT. They said to add a 100 for every additional school year the student completes. So a 1210 in 8th grade = 1310 in 9th grade = 1410 in 10th grade = 1510 in 11th grade. |
Oh come on. I took the PSAT in middle school thirty years ago. It is used for CTY and other purposes. Drop the uninformed condescension. |
Geometry in eighth grade is the above-grade-level math track. However my kid who took geometry in eighth grade did not take the PSAT in eighth grade. |
Depends at which school..it is the norm at some. |
In some cases, having one is helpful. I rather not say what purpose it served for DD. |
Yea, the gifted and talented kids definitely took the PSAT in middle school during my time. I think one of the girls in my class scored 1200+. I wasnt sure if it was 7th or 8th grade but I am guessing it was 8th now. |
