Does mcps provide PSAT for eight grader?

Kids can take the regular SAT starting in 7th grade as part of a talent search such as CTY.

My understanding is anyone can take the PSAT practice SAT from 8th grade on but it doesn't count for National Merit usually until Junior year.

My brother took the SATs in middle school back in the 80s. He was really bright so I don't know if it was for a program like CTY but we did live in Baltimore so maybe. He did well on it too. Maybe 1200 or so? Sickening. I worked my ass off with study guides and a prep class and barely broke 1000. Guess who has a bachelor and master's degree and guess who failed out of freshman year of college?

And clearly his downfall was all caused by taking the SATs in 8th grade.

In some cases, having one is helpful. I rather not say what purpose it served for DD.

I'm curious what purposes would be served by having a PSAT that couldn't be served by an SAT. Since the SAT is on the weekend, it's much easier. You just register for it.

Oh come on. I took the PSAT in middle school thirty years ago. It is used for CTY and other purposes. Drop the uninformed condescension.

CTY has offered the *SAT* for middle schools kids for years. I don't know of any program that requires the PSAT instead of the SAT, but there could be one out there.
