Blood pregnancy test tomorrow

Anonymous
We did our first round of IUI this month and go in for the blood pregnancy test tomorrow. Wondering what to expect for the blood pregnancy test. How long does it take to get results? Should my husband go in too?

The two fertility clinics I've been a patient at did the blood draws for pregnancy tests alongside all the other morning monitoring patients. They should call in the afternoon with the results (and next-step instructions if your test is positive). (If you're a patient at Dominion, be prepared to go in for blood draws every 48 hours until your beta reaches 2000, which for me was every other day for nearly 2 weeks!)
I didn't take my husband with me to any blood draws.
Good luck!

Shady grove has you come in between 7-9 and be prepared to wait at fair oaks office. They’re super slow. Then I always got a call around 1-1:15pm with results. If positive they’ll have you come back 48 hours later. Even though mine tripled they had me do three because the number was low “32.” Which is still normal for that early. My numbers with my daughter were 48 same day so I just make low numbers. They wanted a fourth draw and I said no. Then an ultrasound at 6 weeks and again at 8 weeks then released to my midwives.

No, do not take your spouse in. Unnecessary.
Have you peed on a home pregnancy test? What day was your IUI?

Thanks everyone! I am with Shady grove. We haven’t taken a home pregnancy test yet... can’t bring myself too because I’m too nervous. Our IUI was 2 weeks ago Sunday.

Damn. I admire your fortitude!
May the odds be in your favor!!!

My nurse called at 3 pm the last two times (SGF), so the timing may vary.

Do a lot of others take a home pregnancy test??? And has it worked out? We were told because of the progesterone promethium it could be a false negative or false positive.

No, the prometrium will not cause a false positive on an hpt. And if you used a trigger shot, that is well out of your system 2 weeks later.

+1 -- It's the trigger shot, not the Prometrium, that could cause a false positive if you test too early.

And yes, I took hpts after my IUI and it worked out. I'm a very impatient person, plus I wanted to see how long it took for the trigger shot to leave my system, so I was taking them every couple of days for the first week after my IUI. The second line had faded away to almost nothing by about 8 or 9 days post-IUI, so imagine my surprise when at only 10 days post-IUI it was clearly darker again. It was darker still on 11 dpiui, and by then I was noticing changes to my breasts and sleeping habits, so I knew it must be real. I called my clinic and they were able to have me come in for a blood draw late that morning, even though I didn't talk to them until a couple hours after monitoring was over. I felt it was important in my situation to go in that early, rather than wait until my scheduled blood draw at 14 dpiui, because I have a history of chemical pregnancies and miscarriage and the plan was for me to start on lovenox once a pregnant test was confirmed positive. So by 15 dpiui (only 1 day after I was supposed to have my first beta) I was already having my third beta drawn and was on my 5th day of lovenox.

I always test because i’d rather know then have a breakdown when they call in the middle of the workday.

A HPT will be accurate at this time point. I always took one at least the day before beta so I was prepared.

I always took an hpt the morning of the blood test. I wanted to cushion the blow if it was negative.

It's funny, on paper they discourage folks from taking HPTs but at my blood test for my first IUI the nurse asked me if I had tested. I got the feeling they anticipate many people will take HPTs. I had not done it that time, though I sensed it was negative based on how my body was feeling (I was right). It probably would have been better to find out at home than to hold out hope during the day at work.

I’ve always taken the HPT and it’s been accurate all 3 times.
