My son is a rising 4th grader and reads on (but definitely not above) grade level. He read and enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series, most of the Who Is/What Is series, and the I Survived series. Looking for another series that he can read and enjoy that is at or about the same level (he's not going to be able to read Harry Potter or similar, although he enjoys listening to those books on CD). |
My son liked "Max Crumbly." It is a little bit like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but not exactly. |
Remy Muldoon, Amulet, Elliott Stone, are all series my son has enjoyed. Oh, and the hated DogMan, which he loves and I loathe. |
I Funny by James Patterson - I think there are 3 books in the series. Also the Fudge books by Judy Blume.
My son also loves the Lemony Snicket A Series of Unfortunate Events though those I read out loud to him. |
Droon or Bailey school kids? |
Captain Underpants?
Big Nate? |
Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland. Scholastic books series about different tribes of dragons. Great for boys and girls of that age. |
Magic treehouse? |
Thank you! I looked at these on amazon and a bunch of them look like they would work well! |
Not Magic Treehouse! That's way below a typical 4th grader, and so formulaic and poorly written. Maybe PP was thinking of the series that is 13-Story Treehouse, 26-Story Treehouse, etc.
Also try Spy School; Shiloh series by Phyllis Reynolds Nadler; House of Robots. |
DP - but I was thinking of 13-story, 26-story treehouse, too, but wasn't sure of the reading level of those books, so didn't suggest it. |
Rangers Apprentice and Brotherband series
Anything by Stuart Gibbs |
The James Patterson Treasure Hunters series. Has plenty of illustrations bc one of the characters is an artist so draws what she sees. They’re akin to Harry Potter with kids in peril, and getting themselves out of dangerous situations. But, my 9 yr old cared enough about the stories to ask what certain words meantn—instead of skipping them, which sure he did with HP. |
The Who Would Win books are also very popular at our house. Also the Jedi Academy books, if he like Star Wars. |
Also if he likes Star Wars - Darth paper If he likes Minecraft - diary of an 8 bit warrior |
