Is fresh fruit seriously not that great for us, or do people just eat too much of them?

I offered a very fit bff a banana. She turned it down, said she limits her fruit intake, and bananas aren't great for you, full of sugar? Said when it comes to produce, she eats mostly vegetables. I'm starting to think I'm totally freaking clueless about nutrition. I thought a banana every morning was square and nutritious.

She's on the nuttier side of health-conscious. Disregard.

I don’t limit fruit intake but I do limit bananas. They are particularly sugary and relatively low in fiber. Also, I hate how they taste.

+1

The only population on earth that thinks there's something wrong with fruits and vegetables, are Americans (zomg teh carbz!). It's part of our disordered relationship with fruit. Eat the banana. It is not at all close to eating a hostess cupcake.

Yeah a banana is really starchy, more like a potato. Not something I would eat typically.

Bananas are super-high on the glycemic index. Berries are a much healthier choice.

Bananas are great for little kids and a big satiating snack (also to stop things up a bit)
Fruit is generally good for you it’s just we eat a lot of other things. I don’t eat dessert on weekdays but eat a ton of peaches, apples and oranges (season dependent). I stay away from too many grapes (sugar bombs) and I’m healthy and not lacking for vitamins.

Bananas are not what most people get fat on. I do not limit bananas (or any fruit for that matter).

What on earth is wrong with a potato? What other cultures on the planet earth use potatoes in their food/cooking, and have an issue with potatoes?

I did Whole 30 and did not lose weight and I was told I was eating too much fruit.

It's all such BS.

No one is obese because they overeat fruits. No way, no how.

It's not about being "overweight" per se, it's about being 40 and it all adds up.

I don’t eat bananas because they constipate me. Maybe your friend by want to discuss her bowel habits with you.

I don’t eat potatoes and bananas because I’ve been maintaining a major weight loss my whole life. I am one of the very rare people actually successful at maintaining a loss so I’m not really all that impressed with what other cultures do. People in other cultures also fail to maintain serious (60lb+) weight losses.
