DD put my little ponies in a brand new container of hummus today

And I flipped out. Ex and I are divorcing and I can't afford to buy new clothes or shoes for myself. I ripped my last pair of jeans a few days ago. I spent a little more at the grocery store tobuy myself some adult snacks. Hummus is fricking expensive. And DD ate my cheeseburger at dinner (her first ever) and her whole hotdog at dinner. She was still hungry after, so I let her pick the hummus. And a few minutes later, there are three dirty MLP figures deeply embedded in the hummus. I freaked and said that was unacceptable. I am in tears, because I can't afford all this food. My feet are in so much pain, because I need shoes.

Now I feel bad, because I came here to post that this thread title is amazing.

OP, I am sorry for what you're going through.

You sound very stressed.

I think the hummus is still edible. Just think of it as an immune system boost.

OP, I'm sorry things are stressful for you right now. Are you able to get some help from a food bank to take some of the burden off? Please do give a general location so people can make suggestions.

Embrace the germs. Eat the hummus. You need the protein more and the MLP won't be *that* gross. No worse than a snotty, crying kid hug.

Also consider going over to the finance board and ask for some tips. Give them your budget, and they're good at finding places to cut corners so that you can buy a new pair of (inexpensive and possibly used) shoes. But something comfortable nonetheless.

Sorry I remember the feeling of trying to make every dollar stretch. Thrift stores on their sale days + washing machine quickly become the place to shop when the financial plummet of divorce hits.

This is not to scold you but hummus is cheap and easy to make. Tahini, chickpeas, oil oil, lemon juice.

I'm sorry, OP. It sounds like things are really tough. I agree with the PPs that you should look into a food bank or other form of assistance. You can get the help you need to be able to pay for your and your DD's food! At the same time, I totally understand how hard it is when you're stressed and something unexpected happens like this. Give yourself a bit of a break -- don't beat yourself up for getting upset. Hug your DD, eat some germy hummus, and get yourself to a food bank and a church or thrift store or other donation place for some shoes.
