Surviving a triple

Anonymous
My DC will be a freshman at an urban college and has been assigned a triple. This was a surprise. How did your child, who really appreciates their privacy and lone space do? Any tips to make it better?

Why don't you encourage your child to hop on a college message board, or ask a few friends who are already in college/siblings of friends?

Sorry, OP. He likely won't survive. Thoughts and prayers.

Two new friends.
What’s the issue?

There is no privacy or alone time in college. It’s like 4 years of summer camp. Tell your dc to look into reserving a study room in the library.

There will probably be opportunities for 1 student to move out during the year as kids leave school for various reasons.

Sounds fun

Yes, I started in an overstuffed double (triple). Two of us bonded and the third moved out. Once spots open, people join sports teams and find that group or other groups, it will work out. But no, it's not a fair situation, in my case where it was a double. I survived though. Nobody just hangs out in their rooms all the time. At least not the weird ones.

Lack of space and privacy aren’t the biggest concern. Freshman Triples are often a) platonic “love triangles” or b) two roommates against one. They were the bane of my existence as an RA.

Haha omg. I thought this was going to be about something serious.

Please elevate your helicopter to a higher cruising altitude, OP.

The other advice I'll give you is to not do that overinvolved parent thing where you get super upset and indignant about little things like this. It is likely to make your child react the same way, when really the message here should be oh well, sometimes things like this happen and you just roll with it, hopefully at least one of them is a good fit!

Gosh you guys are mean.
Basically I was looking for practical info but thanks for the snark.

Dc had a triple last year and it worked out fine. His whole dorm was triples. One roommate he never saw. DC went to bed by 11 and was up and out by 7. That roommate wouldn’t come back to the room until DC was asleep and the roommate was asleep when DC left in the am.

If he can't figure this out than I'm not sure how we will survive being an adult.
