Jen Hatmaker

It’s amazing Jen still even has a book contracts after her string of flops with Fierce, Free, and Full of Privilege, her “manifesto” regarding all things life and love released right before her own marriage cataclysmically blew apart, and the dumb Moxie book that no one bought. The cook book from last year tumbled out the gate with a sputter then fell into obscurity pretty damn quick too, from what I recall. Jen moved away from that project pretty fast.

She can probably still get a book published because of her book club. She can guarantee her own pre-sales if she chooses her own book for the book club. But it does seem like it's an on thin ice. I really think this new book is a tell-all, because publishers know that dirt will sell. There's no way they'd be excited about fiction from her. But if this book bombs, she's likely done, book club or not. People just aren't buying these books anymore from authors like Hollis, Howerton, etc, or even Glennon. Why spend $20-30 on a new book of anecdotes when it'll be in a used bookstore in six months for $10 or you can just follow their social media and see it all for free? People are waking up.

I wonder if she is going to try a Martha Beck "Leaving the Saints" redux, but about her apparent departure from the Christian culture. I'm sure her editor is fawning over how brave she is and is breathless over her courageous new manifesto.

Does Tyler have ANY black friends or fans? All I see in his comments are Gen X white ladies.

Pre-blog Jen was a better writer, or maybe she had a better editor. Her Bible studies were well-organized and coherent. Too bad she maligns them when they are what set her on her path out of total anonymity.

How many unique items does Jen actually shill in a given month? She is truly all over the place. I can name off the top of my head Able and Better Help (which Howerton absolutely abhors and which she tore apart in a pod episode) and some CBD or multiple CBD companies. But she is shilling stuff all the time and for everyone.

Gosh, I know it's not going to happen, but I wish Craig Melton would publish his side of the story. He was just shredded by Glennon yet is still in her life. I can't imagine anyone being married to her and feel awful for Abby.
Glennon just uses him for her own purposes, to present a neener, neener, we can do modern family better than all of you! Even my excoriated ex still loves me and wants to be part of my amazing life! With my Olympian wife!

My theory is he got a big payoff for being thrown under the bus. Didn't he even move to Cali with them? Getting his own place is expensive.

I wonder how her kids feel about everything she put in her best selling books. She mentioned on a podcast they are not pleased she put them out there in cyberspace as kids. She wrote it off as not knowing any better, but she is a smart gal. She knew what she was doing.

Sorry to hijack the Jen thread even more..

Glennon has been part of Jen's circle for years, so she's Hatmaker-adjacent. She also seems to have a ton of influence on Jen.

I kind of feel she’s going to do whatever brings in more fangirls and money. BLM, deconstructed faith, LBGTQ (sorry, I’m not up on all the letters, no disrespect intended). She seems like trying to be the social warrior of whatever is currently trending and what can bring in the most follows and money.

hmm... she said her first sentence goes for the jugular, so my guess is it's either the divorce or Christianity.

By the time anything like this was even published all those topics would be soooo passé. They are all almost passé now. The zeitgeist has moved on.

If Jen writes a go for the jugular tell all
about what happened with her divorce my opinion of her would even fall lower than it is now.

This is a deeply painful thing for many many people, not just for Jen.

Some things needs to remain private.

It’s the classy, wise, mature, and kind thing to do. Yes, even if she was not at all at fault in what happened.

I would be surprised if it isn’t a tell all from the divorce and how she healed and found love again.

I feel like this is exactly what it will be…a tell all. At this point, she’s so desperate to be relevant, she’ll thrown it all out there without concern for anyone. It will also probably include complete devotion to her fake love, TM.
