Rude to go to the salon with dirty hair?

Anonymous
If you're between hair washes and you're coming up on the day when you would normally wash your hair but you know you're going to the salon that day anyway, do you wash it or just go with it?

If I know I'm going to the salon, I usually don't bother but then I've been wondering if my hair stylist thinks I'm gross and go around with dirty hair.

What do you do?

The stylist is washing your hair so why does it matter?

It depends on how many days. When I get a blow out I can go 5-6 days without washing it and using dry shampoo but it is gross by the end so I wash before I go. If it has only been 2-3 days I think that is fine.

My stylist is a big proponent of not over washing your hair, so she’d prefer I come in with dirty hair since she’s going to wash it either way.

Same here. Besides, I’m not clear on how this would be “rude.” You’re paying someone for a service which includes washing your hair. The purpose of washing hair is to remove dirt and the assumption is that you come in with some to remove.
Do you wash your car before taking it to the car wash?

This is like cleaning the house before the cleaning lady comes over.

No point to it.

My understanding is that highlights also "take" better on hair that isn't freshly washed.

Why would you wash your hair first, unless you're just getting a cut and walking out?

That is truly disgusting. Wash your hair please.

I had this concern so I asked my stylist. She asked me to please not wash on color days because the color doesn’t absorb as well and it’s more irritating to the scalp when the natural oils are washed out. I guess if you’re getting only a cut, it doesn’t matter but my stylist didn’t seem grossed out by my own dirty hair.

NP. Not everyone is the same you know. My hair is not gross when I go 5 days between washes.

Good grief. I haven't used shampoo on my hair in years.

What do you use instead? (Serious question)

They're going to wash it for you anyhow, so why wash it prior to your appointment?

Co-washing is completely different than just not washing your hair at all for 5-6 days while you keep dumping dry shampoo in it.
