Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Sorry to be gross, but I'm a little over 34 weeks and it's been a while since I've been able to do any grooming "down there." I just can't see it, so it's the last place I want to go near with a razor! Privately I can tolerate this (and DH just has to deal), but I feel like I need to do something to address the situation before delivery and I'll be out there for any number of people to see (I know they are medical professionals and all, but I'll just be mortified with the status quo). I've read that waxing isn't the best idea b/c you can get infections... (not sure there is any truth to this). Anybody figure out a good way to deal with this? And yes, I have considered assigning DH to the job... just not sure I want to give him that much power . Thanks in advance!

You took the words out of my mouth!!! Have the same issue, and having the same fear about delivery!
Try using a mirror...I resorted to this after DH turned me down for help! |
| If you're just doing it for the doctors, I wouldn't worry about it. |
| I have the exact same issue. I hope i haven't horrified my doctor thus far. I have decided to just get over it--even though I am horrified. What do others do? |
| seriously I would not give a second thought to maintaining my bikini line for the sake of doctors! That is crazy. you are not trying to make them think you're pretty, just to get a baby out of you safely! |
| you are also pooing in front of them so an unkempt bikini line is probably the least embarrassing thing happening. |
| I shaved standing up in front of the mirror - it just made me feel a little less large and preggo |

I tried to use a mirror in the shower but it just fogged up - duh. I just gently did my best shaving by covering the goods with my fingers.
When I found out that they shave you, I decided to go get a wax two days before my scheduled c-section. Not a good idea. I wouldn't recommend others doing it. Because I was engorged, I pretty much bruised immediately. |

I got a bikini wax when I was about 7 months pregnant, so you can totally do that if you want to. I didn't have any issues like the PP did but I get bikini waxes regularly, so that might be why.
If it bothers you just for you, I think you can totally get a wax. If you're worried about the doctors, I agree with PPs that you need to get over it. Just imagine all the stuff they have seen - pubic hair is natural and normal, there is no way any OB or nurse cares about that at all. |

I got a bikini wax at 8.5 months pregnant last time. The only trouble I had was with the waxer. My regular lady was out of the country so I had someone new. I usually have a landing strip but I should have just had her take it all off because she ended up creating what my husband could only describe as a long skinny leaf-like pattern. Honestly, it was so bad, my OB said something to me when I delivered.
I'm getting waxed this weekend at 36 weeks and to make sure there are no errors, I'm having them take it all off. |
| I really wouldn't worry about it. Believe me, they've seen it all. This is the last thing to even think about in regards to delivery. And **shock** there are women out there who don't regularly wax/shave/whatever even when they're not hugely pregnant! |
| I thought hospitals didn't shave you down there anymore. I've had 3 and thank goodness I've never been shaved! Is this still being done?? |
PP had a c-section; I bet they just shave at the top near where they make the incision? |
oh, duh |
| I'm just starting to get larger, although not to the point where I can't do some acrobatics to still get the shaving done. Since I'm already having some difficulty, I got a small electric trimmer, and have decided it can be DH's job- I really shave for him anyway, and he likes the idea of helping keep things trim down there. If he wasn't going to do it, I would be going au-natural. |
