| Travelling from Tyson's corner, is there a route that we can skip driving over the bridge as I am scared of heights |
| You can have the bridge staff drive your car over for you. They do it safely every day and you can close your eyes. |
| Go north to Wilmington, DE and come south (bridge or tunnel in Baltimore). Go south to Norfolk, and come up the ESVA. |
Agreed. Otherwise you have to drive all the way up to Delware and then come down the peninsula, which will make the drive much longer. |
Should note it’s not the actual bridge staff that does it, it’s a for-pay service through a private company, I think it costs $30. |
Wow, learn something new every day. Is this a service specifically for people who feel uncomfortable driving on the bridge? Never heard of that before, here or anywhere else. |
Answered my own question: yes https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/for-some-a-drive-across-the-chesapeake-bay-bridge-is-a-harrowing-experience/2013/07/22/e6f1b8b4-f300-11e2-ae43-b31dc363c3bf_story.html?utm_term=.716b5123680d |
| Bridge phobia is one of the most common around. I have a friend who routinely hires someone to drive her car over bridges -- even short ones. |
My senior citizen mom has the bridge staff drive her car (she said it was the NJ state police, not sure though) across the Del Mem bridge a few years ago. |
I drive white knuckled in the middle lane when crossing the bridge and that's only if I have to. |
| i don't have issues with driving over bridges, but I REALLY dislike the bay bridge. It REALLY scares me in a way that has never happened on any other bridge. I drove once over it in the dark, though...and it was SO SO SO much better; it didi'nt phase me at all. (my issue is, i think, being able to see how long and twisty it is) If that is at all possible for you, I would highly recommend it. |
Yup me too. |
Me too. I feel like I am going to pass out especially with screaming kids in the car. |
| Swim across the bay - easy peasy. |
| Or you could drive to Virginia Beach and take the bridge-tunnel. Now THAT is a freak show. In bad weather it feels like you are driving straight into the ocean |
