High speed internet and phone - Comcast Xfinity, RCN, or Verizon Fios?

Anonymous
I have Fios now but they seem expensive. It's $130 for phone and internet (no TV). If I can get a better deal from Comcast or RCN, should I do it? How's their service?

If you have access to Cox it is a much better deal. I would run from Verizon.

RCN x 100000000000000

Love our RCN, it's amazing. $51/month for gigabit speeds in my home. Can't beat that.

Where do you live? Just wondering because I’m in falls church and hating fios but don’t know about speeds in my area with other companies. Did you get some special deal with rcn to be paying so little??

Call fios and tell them you want to cancel. Thy will probably reduce your rate but you will have to renew and enter into a new contract.

You gotta call them up and renegotiate. I called them up to cancel triple play bundle and they countered me with a $50 month 50 mb/s Internet only.

Yep, that's the game I play with them every 1 or 2 years depending on the length of the next deal they give me.

Right now I'm locked into a sweet-ass deal: FIOS for internet, phone, & tv with the premium channels package, 3 HD DVR boxes, and some kind of ultimate sports pass that gives us all the NFL, NHL, MLB, Golf, etc. channels that my husband couldn't believe they threw in. I pay $129.99/month for this. I was at $145/month for internet, phone, tv w/ 2 HD DVR boxes when I called to "cancel" in January.

I live in Falls Church and switched to Cox's 39.99 plan for just internet. I'm getting better speeds than FIOS 100/100 plan.

Georgetown. That's their price for internet only. We don't rent any equipment from them. It's $49.99 plus $1 in taxes. Not an introductory deal, that's just their standard rate. I believe it's 1000 mbs down / 100 mbs up.

All those crazy taxes on your cable bill are for the TV channels. We got rid of the cable TV and just use a mix of Sling, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.

I don’t have Verizon tv, just phone and internet. I was at a rate of 70-80/month, then they jacked it up to 130. When I called to cancel, they offered me 50/month so I got into a new 2yr contract. Agent said it would go up after a year but suggested I could just call at end of year 1 to get 50/month again. But after all this, instead of 50 they went back to charging me 90. I called to complain and they said the best they could do was credit me $30/month for a year. I hate fios so much.

Op here. Just signed up for RCN. $78/mo for 1G internet plus phone, and no contract. If Verizon wants us back they can offer something better.

Any updates to add to this? In the same boat with Verizon and thinking of switching to RCN. Verizon wants to charge me a service fee to upgrade my ONT so I can get faster internet speeds. Not like they should be proactive and upgrade my equipment with the money they're making hand over fist. Yeah, right.

I have Verizon, cable/internet/phone for $90/month. I also get a $20 yearly loyalty discount.
