What's up with all the butts?

I was at the mall this weekend and it seemed like every other female under the age of 25 had a whole lotta butt cheek hanging out the bottom of their shorts. I know young women/girls have been flaunting it forever- I definitely remember making my cut-offs shorter than I probably should have- but I don't remember ever seeing this much actual butt cheek before. Like, a good couple inches of cheek above the crease. Couple it with the high-waist trend, and it looks like someone picked them up by their shorts to give them a wedgie!

Is this a new thing? Who started it? Why?

That is a nicer term than I would use, but I agree with you. Tired of seeing body parts that should remain covered in public.

I don't have an issue with they way it looks. Celebrate the body! But oh my goodness, sitting down on public seats seems really unhygienic. I know public seats aren't clean anyway but why add to that? Consider sitting on a jacket or something as a seat cover.

I thought this was a Florida thing. I recently moved to Florida and I've seen this often. It's gross. The other day a mom showed up to a my gym class like this.

it's seriously half their butt. gross. I don't care how nice your butt is- I don't need to see literally half of it because your shorts don't fit properly. seriously not even hygienic.

How is this different from the SAHMs wearing skin-type lulus everywhere while out jogging or going from Soulcycle to the juicery?

New poster here who knows exactly what OP means. The outfit in the above image (as well as the others in that post) are downright conservative compared to the current trend for short shorts.

I’m all for “if you’ve got it, flaunt it” but as someone said above, hygiene is a real issue with this new style.
