First time homeowner here. I know it's normal to sell the loan to a large bank and that's what happened. Why is the original lender sending me mail to buy mortgage insurance just in case I do or become disabled?
1. Do I need that insurance? I have a 1.5m life insurance policy. 2. Shouldn't I buy that through Chase, the new company, if I get it at all? 3. Is that kind of insurance a scam? I have an 800K jumbo loan. They're offering no medical exam insurance. Did you buy it? |
Ignore it, it’s junk mail. |
I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of it. I swear, ADT sends me mail every single day. Since I'm a new owner, I don't know what's legit and what isn't. Did I do okay here: 1. 2 mil Umbrella life insurance for $350 year. 2. Homeowner's insurance on a 1 mil home for $1800 year. This is in DC. Is there any other insurance you would suggest I buy? Or am I covered? |
Long-term disability insurance can make sense if your employer doesn't provide it and your income is important to maintaining your family's standard of living. Often it has a lower standard than Social Security disability benefits (SSDI requires you have limitations in doing any job, while private insurance will only require you to be unable to do your current job). Depending on the policy you get, you can also get money on top of Social Security disability, since SSDI doesn't pay as much as you're earning.
But many people get it through their jobs, and you don't need to buy from a company that's spamming you. |
Exactly - Just throw that junk mail into the recycling and ignore! |
