Shady Grove waits a full 14 days post-transfer to do betas which I'm told is unusually long compared to most clinics. And, of course, it's several days past the point you can home test and get a clear result on your own.
Did you home test before your Shady Grove beta? If so, how many days post-transfer? Did you notify your nurse of result? Any regrets? |
| NO! I did the first time and regretted NOT TESTING. I needed to mentally prep myself beforehand. I would test the night before the SG beta. |
I should clarify -- i didn't test the first time and regretted it. tested at home all the other times. |

5 IUIs with SG. 2 FETs. I always tested before the beta. Always. I spend part of the day in a location where I'm unreachable via cell phone, and between that and just not wanting to be blindsided with bad news at work, waiting until beta results never felt like a good option. For IUIs, I'd usually test the day before beta so I knew the trigger was out of my system. For both FETs, I started testing at 8dp5dt.
No idea why SG waits a full 2 weeks after embryo transfer, unless it is to weed out early chemicals. Every other clinic I'm aware of in other areas of the country seems to be standard at 9dp5dt. |
| I “tested out the trigger” so I essentially tested every day. Positive until it went negative and the, in my case, started to look positive again very faintly and then more strongly. Was a fairly decently clear positive by the day of my beta. |
| I always tested beforehand. |
| GW also does betas 14 days after transfer, as I recall. |
| I have done 5 ivf transfers and have learned I prefer not testing bc I like the definitive answer from the beta. The first 2 cycles I home tested day after day first saying it must be too early, then as it got closer i was both crushed that it didn’t work and at the same time kidding myself that it might be wrong (it wasn’t). I’ll take the hope and fix my schedule so I can get away from ppl if there is bad news. |
| 14 days after a 5day balstocyst transfer is an overkill. So, I tested on day 9, which should approximately correspond to 14DPO. You should get a pretty accurate result then. At the end, however, it's personal preference. I did not want to learn from the nurse over the phone. |
| I did a test at home on days 9 and 12 and did my beta on day 13. They gave me crap about wanting to be “early” but we were leaving for vacation. I did my other 2 betas in Puerto Rico. They were not happy with me but what could they do? |
|
It is a long time to wait and I've heard other clinics start earlier but it is what it is if you go with SGFC.
To your question about testing before the beta, hell yes. I need to process the news before getting the test. I started testing at 6dp5dt and saw a very faint line with both successful pregnancies starting then. |
| I started peeing on a stick at 9 dpt and saw a faint line. I really didn't think I could be pregnant though and was convinced it was the drugs still in my system. I'm glad I tested beforehand though. I got the call at work and still was crying and sort of out of control even though it was a positive. I wish they had emailed me and I could have opened it when I wanted. |
| Definitely yes. Like other posters I preferred not hearing the news at work. I tested positive on my successful FET 8 days post 5 day transfer |
| Dominion does a test a week out to check estrogen and progesterone. They then test 2 weeks out as the official test, so the same as SGF. The nurse drawing blood said they said they don't test HCG at that first blood draw, but they do, but just don't tell you (although I'd assume they have to if you ask directly). I found out they do when i had a chemical and the Dr told me the # from the initial test. I knew anyway b/c I was testing at home. When it's BFN or chemical it sucks finding out in whatever way, but it is much better to find out at home as opposed to at work. |
| My clinic tests 10dp5dt so its a two week wait from the egg retrieval but not from the transfer. Sometimes I test at home and other times Ive not tested. The one time I got pregnant I tested 10dpo (7dpd3t) and got a negative line. It ended up being positive 5 days later so I guess I had jumped the gun. |
