FCPS school profiles -- membership numbers for grades and special ed

When you look at a school profile and then the membership tab, why does FCPS categorize the students in each grade and then a separate number for special ed that adds up to the total? Are the special ed kids not in a grade? For instance, in a middle school membership page, there will be a number for 7th graders, a number of 8th graders and then a separate number of "special ed." All of those add up to the total, so the special ed kids are not included in the 7th or 8th grade membership.

The same is true for AAP students in elementary and middle school. I don't know the rationale, but if you just the total numbers by grade, you can pull that information off the Virginia Department of Education site at this site:

However, that information is only collected for one month in the fall, and not updated montly.

They also separate out AAP Level IV as a separate column. I don’t what they do if a student is special ed and AAP.

I wonder if it means that special ed is the main instruction (i.e. the child is in a classroom that is special ed only). With AAP, it means that the child is in an AAP instruction classroom.

With the local level 4 schools, I think their membership tab doesn't even account for them as AAP. Not sure why.

The LLIV schools have an AAP membership tab, but it's an aggregate number (like special ed) and not grade by grade.

That is incorrect. LLIV is counted as AAP on the membership charts.

It is the same for center schools.

Not in the middle schools with level 4. It simply isn't counted on the membership tab. And to the extent that it is "counted" in the Demographics tab, it includes kids who are taking 4 honors classes even if they aren't designated as "AAP."

This information might be pulled from SIS, which separates them out when schools are looking at staffing. Separating those populations out can help see what types and numbers of staff are needed.

Not accurate for my kid's ES. And still, the dashboard doesn't show any AAP kids for middle schools that have local level 4 programs. But, the elem. schools with local level 4 programs show the AAP students even when it is just 4 or 5 kids per grade.
