Lily Pads Early Learning Center

Anyone have experience with Lily Pads near the Grosvenor Metro? We went to their open house on Saturday and it seemed nice. Thanks!

We were not happy there. There was a lack of leadership and not enough communication with parents. There is also no real structure for the day in terms of curriculum.

We have had the same issues with the leadership, communication, curriculum etc. at Lily Pads.

Does anyone else have recent feedback?

This is the first online review I’ve found anywhere from 2020 under their new interim director (thank you for posting) and the majority of reviews I have located are from 2018 or before. Our son is new there but we are strongly considering looking for alternative options.

Though I can only find mostly positive reviews of the teachers/staff we have not been overly impressed. Despite picking him up at various times in the day, his providers are usually always on their phone rather than interacting, they repeatedly send him home in clothes that aren’t his with evidence of his lunch still on his face, and they have not been attentive when we explained a new health issue our son is experiencing which impacts the frequency and amounts of his usual feeds. He drinks a fraction of what we can get him to drink at home (feeding him now takes considerably more patience and understanding of differing cues etc.). We’re first-time parents and are unsure if these are normal growing pains as we adjust to daycare.

They're not the most organized, unfortunately - and I say unfortunately because we loved most of the teachers there. The prior director rubbed us the wrong way with her complete lack of communication and disregard for any of our requests for better communication, but it seems the new director is trying to make improvements and establish a more structured curriculum, newsletters and lesson plans. There was a lot of staff turnover for a while in the year+ we were there and some strange occurrences, like an infant teacher disappearing for a month without notice and then returning with no explanation to the parents. I attribute that to the prior director's lack of judgement and again, no clear communication. I wussed out on complaining to the owner, whom I think would have been responsive. Also, as much as we loved the infant teachers, the room set up and constant changes among teachers and babies at the time made it tough for our kid to have a stable environment in terms of eating and sleeping - so to PP's point, we couldn't tell what were normal growing pains and what issues were unique to this daycare setting. Once we moved into the toddler room, it was a total 180 in the positive direction.

We ultimately decided to switch daycares for reasons including cost and the issues with the prior director, but it was hard to say goodbye to the teachers with whom our child has grown. Most of them are really passionate about the kids and their development, and we were pleasantly surprised when we moved to the toddler room to see how much our kid learned, randomly showing us things like pointing to body parts or exhibiting gentle touch -- once we asked, we'd find out that was what he learned that week at the center. Not sure I could confidently recommend it as a daycare, but I'm hopeful the new director will bring about positive change and we could consider it for a second child in the future.

The new director is wonderful and very thoughtful, you can really see that she cares about making sure every family is heard. And Like the previous poster stated there is a totally 180 in terms of communication, organization and leadership. We have been extremely happy with these changes and feel very confident now recommending Lily Pads.
