Trump Rips Up Presidential Records

Anonymous
According to two former White House staffers, there is an entire team of tax-payer funded employees who have to reassemble and tape together all the documents Trump rips up. The Presidential Records Act requires the White House to preserve all documents the president handles. Trump doesn’t seem to care. He tears up documents when he is done with them and either throws them on the floor or in the trash. In order to comply with the law, the staff picks up all the pieces and hands them over to a team to tape them together again. This administration is getting crazier by the day. Can’t somebody just say, “Mr. President can you not rip that up?”

Or, maybe, hold on to the original and make him a photocopy to tear up. Not the brightest thinkers.

Ever tried to break a habit? If you've been tearing up drafts for 50+ years, it might be tough to break the habit.

That explains Trump’s current unlawful behavior.

Yes, I doubt this is the most illegal habit he has. It's bizarre.

Pot meet kettle. Trump is handed a document, scribbles notations on it and then tears it up. Yes, the report, letter or email can be reprinted, but the record is effectively lost.

He’s a toddler. He can’t be left in a room alone.

I get it now. He’s been breaking the law for 50 years and getting away with it, so we should look the other way as he continues to commit crimes. Including tearing up Presidental documents. It’s a crime. I do expect POTUS not to commit those, yes.

We should all thank John Kelly for holding some semblance of a presidency together.

But not too loudly, because we don’t want John Kelly fired! Utter chaos would ensue.

Isn't it just as big a story that 2 civil servants with >20 years service were summarily fired and forced to say they resigned? And the only explanation given is "they serve at the pleasure of the President" (which is not legally justifiable).

Lartey said he was fired at the end of the work day on March 23, with no warning. His top-secret security clearance was revoked, he said. Later, five boxes of his personal belongings were mailed to his home.

“I was stunned,” he said. “I asked them, ‘Why can’t you all tell me something?’ I had gotten comfortable. I was going to retire. I would never have thought I would have gotten fired.” He signed a pre-written resignation letter that stated he was leaving to pursue other opportunities. But he is still unemployed.

Young, who was terminated April 19, said he fought back and had his official status changed from “resigned” to “terminated.”

“I was coerced to sign a resignation letter at that time,” he said. “Then they escorted me to the garage and took my parking placard.”

He described the firing as traumatic and frustratingly Kafkaesque. “The only excuse that I’ve ever gotten from them,” he said, “was that you serve at the pleasure of the president.”
