DD at Princeton -- virtually every girl there has a Longchamp bag. Not endorsing it in any way -- for style or utility -- just an observation.

It's not fashionable, but the Jansport Big Student backpack is a great deal - not expensive, holds a lot, and HOLDS UP.

I had a Jansport that I used through most of HS and all of college. Of course, I was a poor, but it was a great bag.

Any bag will do. I've been using my Kenneth Cole Reaction messenger bag since I got it in 1994 for free for buying perfume. DH used his Jansport through college and law school and still uses it as a carry-on bag when we go on vacations.
