Where do lots of kids who live very close to Chantilly and/or the KAA site go to school? Oakton
To Which school do kids who currently live close to Chantilly and the KAA site are recommended by THRU to move? Oakton

How far is Oakton from these students? Around 30 minutes on rush hour I66 or windy back roads.
How far is Chantilly from these students? 5-10 minutes over neighborhood roads.
How far is KAA site from these students? 5-10 minutes over neighborhood roads.

Is Oakton projected to grow? Yes. A big housing development is going in just up the street.
Is Westfield projected to grow? Yes. Lots of new construction currently in progress near Westfield.

Has a school been promised for years to Western Fairfax? Yes. In fact, the KAA site was initially planned to be the Western High site, but political pressure required FCPS to give it to the Saudis.

The five-year projections in the latest CIP show enrollment declines at Chantilly, Oakton, and Westfield, along with over 800 surplus seats at Herndon.

Then, why are they taking kids out of Chantilly?

Because Thru’s recommendations are based entirely on trailing information (the enrollment in the most recent school year).

The CIP numbers are also based on trailing information. Oakton HS has several new townhome and multi-use developments planned to replace office parks on 123. The AT&T site, Flint Hill sites 1, 3, and 4, plus the Redwood site. In addition there is a large office site near the NRA building on Waples Mill that is going to be converted to residential.

The CIP includes forward-looking projections, so let’s not be disingenuous.

If you’re going to start factoring in additional potential growth, the two pyramids that could see the most growth are Marshall and McLean. Oakton isn’t even in the top five.

There will be space for Oakton families to be moved to Herndon and SLHS now to make room for the townhouses and development.

You clearly don't know the area. Oakton doesn't have any boundary with Herndon now and it certainly won't have one if a new school were to open.

Not being disingenuous at all. The CIP only includes projects where construction has started. All the developments I listed have not started construction in time to be included in the latest CIP.

They shouldn't be making decisions based on one set of assumptions for Oakton and another set for the rest of the county schools.

It would be great if they refined their forecasts to better reflect potential or likely development even when construction has not yet started, but if they did that western Fairfax wouldn't emerge as the area with the greatest need for additional HS capacity.

Political suicide to anger Karen’s and soccer moms, so in the end the board does nothing. The SB members, especially Frisch actually believe they have political careers beyond the SB.

I'm telling you that when all these projects start this year then in the next CIP you will see a huge jump in the Oakton predicted enrollments. It is abnormal to have so many huge projects in the final stage of approval all at once.

You can go to the Residential Development Applications Dashboard and the estimated student yield at Oakton for projects that are both included and excluded from the CIP projections is only 105 kids. Compare that to Marshall, where it's 779 kids.

Could someone help me understand why they’re moving the Wegman’s Chantilly area from Cub Run elementary to Lees Corner elementary? While they're leaving a portion in the middle of the new Lees Corner boundary to stay at CHS? It looks odd.

It’s about time for FCPS to offer clarity about what the plan is now that they approved the purchase of the private school out west.

Is this whole exercise going to be paused as they work through the ramifications of the purchase? Are they going to finally heed the message received from the community that families don’t want boundary changes unless absolutely necessary, especially when their kids are in the crosshairs?

1) “offer clarity” ??!? lol This is FCPS. The forced non-disclosure-agreements on the people working on the boundary review. FCPS = the opposite of clarity / transparency.

2) “exercise going to be paused” ?? Nope. The SB refuses to even acknowledge the huge, new, demographic shift caused by the RIF, the VERAs, the Fork, the ripple-effect in government contracting, and all the ICE raids (times-10 for the fear this is all causing).

People are moving. Kids are transferring now, more than any other year.

But the SB and FCPS chose to stick their head in the sand. There will be NO PAUSE.

No need for a pause. Just continue down the path, then say too much conflicting data to make a decision now. Then time for the next election and voters too disinterested or stupid to vote the SB out.
