We were thinking St Andrews S.P in Panama City Beach. Has anyone ever camped there or a similar beachside location in July/August?
I'm thinking with a plug in box fan and plenty of deet, and maybe retreating to tent or restaurant for an hour at dusk we can make it work and be enjoyable for 2 days. Thoughts? |
| You will HATE IT. |
| So. So. So. Hot. |
BC of the mosquitoes, or the weather? I'm familiar with the temperature and humidity and have been in a similar situation without AC so that's not my main concern... |
| I have no idea what the beaches/camp sites are like there, but we camped at Assateague one summer (July) and the mosquitoes made it absolutely miserable. We were fine when we were on the actual beach but anywhere other than that we were getting eaten alive. We had a screened tent at our campsite that went over the picnic table and had to pretty much live under there which felt a bit claustrophobic. Overall I found beach camping to be rough...bugs, heat, no natural shade. |
| I love camping, we go multiple times each year - weekends and one week long trip. I'll camp anywhere - we've been in heat, humidity, and snow. I will NEVER camp on the beach again, it was miserable. Terrible bugs and sand everywhere. |
| Camping on the beach is awesome in May/June and October. Don't go in between! |
except you have no trees for shade. And you will want to be in the tent in the middle of the day to avoid the bugs. |
| We've camped in lots of places and beach camped exactly once. Never again. We went in early May, so the bugs weren't out in force yet, but the lack of shade and sand everywhere really were downers. |
| Go to Delaware - they spray. |
| Thanks everyone! The reason for that particular location is because its located along our meandering road trip to Houston to visit family. We will mostly be doing mountain camping but thought I might take a chance for a Gulf Coast beach stop. It appears the campground is located in some trees with shade right next to beach but you've all definitely given me some pause! |
Ugh, no, just no. Look for a lake beach somewhere. |
Horse flies Sand fleas Mosquitos Heat. Endless heat. Like so hot you’re worried about your kids hot. Heat stroke! Sweating in an airless tent while realizing you’ve also trapped in several mosquitos! Fire ants. Just no. No no no no. |
Unless you bathe in deet you will leave some part exposed. And you will be bit mercilessly. Also not mentioned above but butt crack sand. |
You forgot the R.O.U.S.s |
