DC Traffic Calming?

What's with all of the pylons and barriers that have sprung up at intersections along Loughboro Rd NW? It seems like a waste of money and sends an exclusionary message, like "don't drive in here because it's my street."

Future bike lane?

No, the pylons partially block access to the intersecting streets. What happened to the urban street grid??

I hate speed bumps. There are too many in Cleveland Park and Chevy Chase.

You can drive right over those pylons. Do it slow, so it doesn't damage your car.

But they WILL fold right over.

re: driving over the pylons …. I always make it a point to cut through the Village of Chevy Chase by driving the wrong way on a one-way for 1/2 block, in order to get from Western to Wisconsin. I do it as often as I can, actually.

I figure, these particular residents of 20815 have tried to shut off their streets from cut-thru traffic, but, *they* cut through -my- DC residential neighborhood immediately south of them every single day (to get to private schools, whole foods, Rodmans …). I'm just returning the favor! and I save about 7 minutes by not suffering thru the cluster%#$ that is Friendship Heights.

I encourage all of my 20015 neighbors to do the same and wave to our Maryland neighbors as we do it. Hi, guys!

Go ahead and do this. Remember that Chevy Chase Village is its own town with its own police force. As the local cops don't have to deal with violent crime very much, most of their time is spent catching vehicle driver violations. They will be very happy to ticket you, which is revenue that goes right to the Village's bottom line.

Thank you, I will remember. They've never been able to catch me in 15 years.

And just a request for you as you make your way down to St. Albans and then barre class: Remember that Chevy Chase DC residents have their own kids on bikes, dogs and joggers — just like you do in your Village idyll. It's really not appropriate for you to drive 41 mph down our residential streets in your Mercedes GLS. I'm sure that's relatable, if you look up from your phone long enough to think about it.

That's why Cleveland Park is proud to have some of DC's highest speed humps, and we aim to get more!

re: the pylons.

I love the fact that they are on Canal (?) road as you drive east approaching the Key Bridge/Whitehurst freeway entrance. They prevent people from staying to the right until the last second and switching to drive into Georgetown. Those to me are a huge improvement.
