| My sister is here (lives in my hometown in Ohio) and she told me she noticed 3 of my friends talking about their infants "school." She was laughing and thought it sounded rediclous to call daycare school. She just thought it was a bit pretentious and over the top. I've never thought about it before but I guess the word daycare is fading out. Just a funny observation I thought I would share. It's now an inside joke. "O does baby Larla have a spelling test today." "She's probably tired from her chem final." |
| At least you don't have to live in Ohio. |
Truth. When we switched from an in-home to a center at 2, we started calling it school. It's play based daycare, obviously, but my kid loves talking about how she goes to school, so whatever works. What kills me is my SIL who went back to work full time and put her toddler in "full time preschool." That's daycare, my dear, but whatever helps you sleep at night. |
| Cool story, bro. |
| Your sister sounds like an awful person |
I actually have noticed this trend too and think it's weird. Your infant did not just "graduate" to the next classroom, stopping posting pics on FB with her "first day last day"
I think it's just so people feel better about their childcare situation. No no, I'm not paying someone to just watch my kid all day, it's SCHOOL. Just starting the tiger mom frenzy earlier and earlier. |
| Parents feel bad about sending their kids to daycare I guess so everyone calls it “school”. I call it daycare. |
| She's right, it is funny. |
| I'm from here and also think it's ridiculous to call any childcare before preschool "school." |
|
Whatever. If your 2 year old or 3 year old or 4 year old can go to part time preschool, mine is going to preschool too, she's just there all day.
Prior to 2 years old, there's still a curriculum that is followed but less structure. |
| I'm not from here either, and I have noticed it and find it weird too. My kid went to one of those coop playgroups and I found it absurd that everyone called it "school". |
| I think once they're 3-4- it's "school" it's pre-school, pre-k, etc. And it's good to have the kid start thinking about going to school, learning, etc. But anything before... c'mon get over yourself. Totally just to make themselves feel less guilty about the cost and time away from their kid. |
| People on this board are going to be super defensive about this bc of their subconscious guilt. I think it's also silly. My kids go to daycare bc they are babies. |
A lot of thought went into the curriculum at my child’s school (Huckleberry Kidz Kare). Tummy time, diaper change, gum on a board book, bottle, nap. It’s a block schedule, so they mix it up with grabbing blocks and spit up time on alternating days. |
| I called it daycare until my kids started calling it school, probably around age 2. So I followed suit. You do you. |
