If your child takes Vyvanse...

My 13 yr old son has been taking Vyvanse since 3rd grade. He is very small so we've only increased the dosage once since then. He says it doesn't feel like it is working as much as it used to. He weighs about 70-75lbs or so. He is going in for his annual checkup in June so we are going to talk to the pediatrician about this then. Just curious how much your child weighs and what is their dosage of Vyvanse?

With ADHD meds, it is often not a matter of how much a child weighs, but how the child's body metabolizes the medication. 70-75 pounds for a 13 yo boy is very small. Does he have other medical conditions that might be impacting how he metabolizes the Vyvanse?

Hey there, OP - when my boyfriend's son was 13, he tried 40's, 50's and 60mg's of Vyvanse - he settled upon 50mg.
At 19, he weights about 175 - at 13 he was likely 140.

There are likely a couple factors at play here - as you already suspect, your son is growing. He also has to contend with raging 13-year-old hormones.

You'll find the right dose <3

No medical issues. He just has small parents. He has been in the 3rd-4th percentile for height and weight since he was in preschool.

I have two teens who take 40 and 60 mgs. They are both about 120 lbs. One of them has had to go up slowly over time as he has taken it even though weight has been the same. The effect was less. The other has been on the same dose for several years.

If he can take breaks on the weekends/holidays, it will help. Also, ask about adding a booster.

My DS is 10 and up to 70 lbs. He's been on 30 mg of Vyvanse since first grade, and is still there. He also takes a ritalin booster in the afternoons at school.

DS started it last fall. He is 16 and takes 40 mg. Breaks for weekends and holidays from school etc. I think it does have more to do with metabolism.

My 13 yr old DS is 83 lbs and takes 40 mg of vyvanse. He also takes 2 mg of intuniv. Both his doctor and I agree that his dosage of vyvanse needs to be increased, but we are waiting until after the summer so he can grow this summer. He will continue with the current dosage until school starts in the fall.

Not long, just switched from focalin in past six months. Started at 40, moved up to 50.
