Are you TRULY very attractive? If so, how does it affect your professional life?

Wondering how much people think this affects things. Please no rounding up your attractiveness or quoting Zoolander

Attractiveness helps. Especially if your "attractiveness" is really about being well groomed and well put together. In workplaces, it makes you look "professional." If you are a "natural beauty" or a "looker" I wouldn't rely on looks. It's great for the first few minutes, but then you open your mouth and...

My DH is attractive and people gravitate towards him in business and at restaurants. He gets excellent service.

Same. I'm shocked at the service and attention my DH gets. Even when my friend's husbands meet him, they look up to him and try to be chummy.

When I was younger I was very attractive (I still am but just plump so not the same. I still get complements but not the way I used to).

Professionally it was a mixed bag. People assume you get things b/c of your looks, when you actually work really hard for everything you have. However, on the flip side being very attractive means you aren't overlooked which gives you more opportunities to show what you can do.

People would stop by my office to ogle me but it was great b/c I could get information out of them that I needed to do my job.

My twin sister is very attractive and in sales. She started out at 21 and has done amazingly well. I am positive being attractive and young helped her early in her career. We are now in our mid-30s and she is still very fit and attractive (and I guess so am I?) and she is doing amazing in her career. I think last year she made around $400k.

+1. I used to be very attractive before 2 kids and a working for a decade as an attorney and this was my experience. DH has just gotten more attractive with age (he's 35 as well) and I notice the huge difference in treatment. It's natural for people to like good looking people - that's why they call it "attraction"!

My H is the male version of your sister I'm conventionally beautiful (tallish, blonde long hair, green eyes, in shape, big boobs) and work in a male dominated industry. It's easy for me to be convincing, get buy in from a group, and get them to do what I want. I got promoted very fast. In interviews if there are 2 men over 40 in the panel I'm hired.

I have only met a handful of very attractive people in my life. Most are not as hot as you think.

However when younger I was very good looking. I goofed off in college and had a 2.5 GPA from a so so school.

I was in a management trading program on Wall Street and the less looking folks had like 3.9 gpas. But looks don't last forever.

With women it helps in marriage. I date a super beautiful girl when 21. Five foot nine blonde, 120 pounds movie star looks. The second she knew no ring was coming she married a rich doctor. She had a GED and lived at home. Ran into her 20 years later still and lived in a mansion and driving a new Range Rover.

It hurts girls in serious fields. But they marry the SVP anyhow.

I have no idea, because I also have a very good personality. I smile warmly at people, I remember what they tell me, I make people comfortable.

I have a co-worker who is drop-dead gorgeous. She works in the accounting department, and does a good job, but seems very shy and isn't particularly gregarious (or even very friendly.) Like all she wanted to do was come into the office, do her work well, be generally cordial, and then go home.

Several years ago she worked in the cube next to me, and all of the guys (older, younger, married, not - you name it) were ALWAYS stopping by her desk and asking her to lunch, having really awkward conversations with her, bringing her little gifts. They didn't seem to think of her much professionally, though.

And the older women were a little bit cruel to her, saying little remarks about the salad she's eating for lunch at her desk (well that's why Lena's so skinny - she only eats salads. Get a burger will ya!), or little comments about her work, or her accent (she is from Russia.)

She got married and had a baby (which quashed all of the lunch invites) and eventually asked to move to a cubicle toward the back of the office, so she wasn't in anyone's line of site anymore. I don't think it was because she thought she was so attractive it was distracting, more like she just doesn't like to be bothered.

The funny thing is, she didn't do anything to instigate this behavior - it was all projection from others. All she did was look totally gorgeous and slim all the time, with great style. She just is who she is, but other people couldn't seem to handle it.
