Ranch/cottage hybrid in Silver Spring. Currently brown with white trim roof line addition to make it look more like a cottage than the ranch it is. Brown painted portion is a mix of brick and stone - painted by prior owner to cover the multiple types of siding.
Option A (aka "the classic") - Paint it all white, paint front door red, & install black shutters - issue is that there a number of white houses on the block although only 1 with the same red/black shutter combo and that is down a bit Option B ("the trend") - Paint brown portion dark navy blue, re-paint trim/room line white, paint front door yellow, & probably no shutters - not like anything on the block but will be much darker than the neighbors who are all shades of white, tan, light gray, light blue, or solid brick |
A picture may help. But I like the combo in option 2. |
I like B |
Another vote for B |
I would not paint a home dark navy blue. |
I really like navy blue, but am having a hard time picturing it on your house as you describe. It seems very dark. But the white option sounds unobjectionable/classic, but also boring.
What about flipping your colors for option B and painting the house yellow with navy accents? A light yellow might "go" more with the other homes on the block? |
I really want to paint our house navy but everything on our block is red brick. I love dark blue houses. It is trendy right now, but it looks great! |
I was this PP. I did a google image search to try to visualize it better. I realized I like houses with a lot of white trim and a brighter navy more than dark/dusky navy or less trim. So, I do like: ![]() and this: ![]() But not so much: ![]() But, TBH, I'm not sure what paint color (only) would improve #3 and think the renovations you are talking about might put the look of your house more like #1 or 2. So in the end, I say go for it if you want. |
Any concerns about such a dark color like navy fading (perhaps unevenly)?
