Summer Pool Membership

Do you love your summer pool? If so where is it, and how crazy is the weight list?

I don't know where you live or what you or your spouse do for a living, but if you are a GS 11 or above, you can join the most wonderful pool. The offciers club at Ft. Belvoir, I think they have an o club in dc too. 180 per year. This pool overlooks the potomac. Huge family pool, Huge gated baby pool and nice lap pool. Far better than army/navy and so much cheaper.

If you are above a GS-7 (I think) - you can also join Fort Myer. Very nice pools - 1 kids pool, 1 regular pool, 1 lap pool and another that usually is not open. Nice snack shack, too - with beer and great paninis! No wait list!

the problem with fort myers pool is the kiddie pool, very small and cold!! Also, I do not think it is very kid friendly. But, the main point of this post is if you can join Ft Myers as a GS 7, you can join Ft Belvoir too. I was not positive about the GS Grade. It really is a fantastic pool. Has a big ship for kids to slid down and a pretty decent size shallower end in the family pool.

Where do you live and specifically what pools were you interested in?

Some of the neighborhoods have pools, but most are for exclusive use by the folks in in that subdivision.

Are you talking about the YMCA, JCC, County rec. centers?

Prince George's Community Pool is great for parts of Mo and PG County, NE DC, Columbia Heights, etc. No waitlist, nice people, nice pool. No bells and whistles but perfectly fine.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but I'm interested in the same thing too! Anyone have a pool "club" to recommend in the Bethesda/Rockville area? OP - please post your location too, I don't want to take over your thread from you!

Upton Hill Regional Park on the border of Arlington and Falls Church has a great water complex, including kiddie pool, lap pool, water slides and water features.

If you're in DC, the search is a bit more frustrating -- we belong to the pool at Mt. Vernon College (part of GW) off Foxhall Road, which is nice (large, beautiful main pool, as well as kiddie pool) but really overpriced. We joined a couple of years ago after I did a pretty thorough search, and it was the only private community pool I found in NW DC; I'm guessing you'd have to put your name on the wait list this year for next. The city pools in Georgetown and near Francis Jr. High are supposed to be nice, so that's a great option if you're a city resident.

We belong to Mt. Vernon as well. It may not be too late for this year- we applied last year around this time and got in.

The Volta and Francis public pools are good - Volta isn't so great for little kids as there's a sharp dropoff and no kiddie pool, but Francis, right over the bridge in West End, has a great gradual-entry kiddie pool. And you can't beat the price

To PP -- DH was a GS-11 but has moved into SES which is above the GS scale. Are SES eligible for Ft. Belvoir? And how does one go about getting a membership? TIA

Can those who belong to Mt. Vernon pool please post instructions on how to apply? I couldn't find it on the GWU site. Thanks!

Does anyone know of any in Alexandria (Old Town, Del Ray, etc.)?

You can also get a membership to the National Cathedral/Beauvoir Pool for the summer, and maybe go "a la carte", too, paying as you visit. I think its a little less expensive than MV pool and has more seating, bigger pool, etc.

I had to drive over to MV pool and pick up a form in 2006. Perhaps there is a number on the fence you can call if you drive over?
