call the officers club at ft belvoir, they will have all the answers for you. very easy to join, just give them the 180. per family for the year. You do not have to join the o club, just the pool. It really is a fantastic pool. Can't wait to go this summer.

pool on cameron street next to durant center is not bad in the summer. I thought it would be, but it is nice. You pay $1. per person, per day. Hollin Hills has a pretty good pool and is reasonalbe compared to others. I don't know of one in Del ray, except the YMCA which is indoors, as well as Chinquapin next to TC williaims on king street. |
| Mt. Vernon pool -- yes, you really have to search to get any information; the dearth of pools in DC means they don't have to do much proactive advertising. E-mail mvcpool@gwu.edu to get on the wait list. 2007 members have until 3/14 (I think) to re-up for 2008; after that, they go to the wait list. |
| OP here! Thank you for all of your input! I was looking for pools preferably in DC with Bethesda being my second choice. Do you have to be a GW Alum to go to Mt. Vernon? |
| Anyone know anything about Spring Knolls in Silver Spring? |
| The Seven Locks Swim and Tennis Club is great. It's in Bethesda on Seven Locks Rd, close to Mont Mall. The downside is it's right off of a busy road. However, it is completely gated and set off the road enough to feel safe once you're in. The kiddie pool is great, it has a built in shade and was just built in 2006? I think. The kids can take tennis lessons right there and then swim the rest of the day. You'll see the same people there all summer so there is a real sense of 'community' and the people are very friendly. I don't think there's a wait list. There wasn't last summer (I don't think). |

OP, no need to have any affiliation with GW to join, although the place is crawling with GW kids who stay in town over the summer. But it's mostly upper NW families with small kids.
I also wanted to mention a place that I've driven by and have wanted to check out but know nothing about -- Mohican Swim Club, off MacArthur Blvd. in Bethesda. Does anyone know anything about it? |
| Does anyone have information to share on how to learn more about the National Cathedral/Beauvoir Pool? Thank you. |
| Mohican Pool is absolutely fantastic. See website (www.mohicanpool.org) for membership eligibility and enrollment forms. Eligibility is based on on where you live--home location must be within a certain radius of the pool. Last summer was our first season at Mohican and we loved it---best money we've ever spent on family entertainment! We're really looking forward to returning again this summer. The environment at Mohican is very relaxed and low-key (though they're very passionate about their swim team!) The wait-list for a permanent membership is long, though there are a limited number of options to pay to come for one summer (you're "renting" someone else's membership) while you wait for a permanent membership. I had once heard that you needed to be a permanent member in order for your children to be on the swim team, though I'm not sure if that's true. Hope this helps the poster who was interested in learning more about Mohican pool in Bethesda. |
| beauvoir pool is only open after 3 pm to the community. i think their camp uses it earlier in the day. |

re: Beauvoir
i would think on the weekends (when camp is not going on?) the pool is open to membership the whole day. |
| Are there any Army forts in Maryland, (like Ft. Belvoir/Myers?) |
Just go to the Beauvoir website - they have all the information in the section for Summer at Beauvoir (except rates for 2008 - still have 2007 info) |
doesn't have to be Army, check the airforce bases too. A lot of the military bases have great officer pools. worth taking a look |
I thought they were closing the pool. St. Albans was going to expand their field, taking over the space. |
