Selective Reduction

Anonymous
Has anyone been pregnant with triplets (or more) and been advised to reduce it to twins? If so, can you recommend the doctor who performed the reduction?

check the selective reduction board at ivfconnections.com.

I have not been through this procedure but I know the ladies on ivfconnections facing this issue all seem to go to the same handful of doctors who specialize in this. I think most travel to NYC to see Dr. Stone or Dr. Evans (??)) I don't believe there is anyone local to DC who is routinely recommended.

My RE also mentioned going to Philly, I assume at Thomas Jefferson. But luckily I never had to deal with SR. I'm sorry that you do. Best of luck.

I have experience with this; sorry if you are facing it too. While it was an easy decision for my DH and I to make, it's still a hard experience to face.

My RE, who has been practicing in this area for a long time, recommended going to Thomas Jefferson in Philly. They are one of the most known in this region -- in that they do the most of these procedures. One of the key factors is to go to someone with a lot of experience; a lot of doctors might know HOW to do the procedure, but they don't get to practice doing them a lot (thankfully). So a lot of people travel. At Thomas Jefferson, you are asking for the maternal-fetal medicine group. The first thing you can do is speak to one of the genetic counselors.

Had I not wanted to travel, there was one person in this area he recommended. I can't remember the name, but I believe the doc was in Fairfax.

For what it's worth, the actual procedure was not that bad. And there was a huge sense of relief afterwards -- that I had done the best I could at bringing healthy children into the world. I have healthy twins.

Best wishes.

The third baby is a precious little life too and I will pray for you to keep it. I understand that you feel yourself to be in a difficult situation where you are concerned about the health and best possible outcome for your children. A great resource is the Sisters of Life. Their contact info is listed on their website. http://sistersoflife.org/contactus.html

How on earth does this answer either of OP's questions? Let's try again. Have you been in this position? Yes or No

If yes, which doctor did you use?

There is a time and place to offer your advice. This isn't it.

you apparently have no freaking idea how high risk this situation is.
my god - who the f**** is this? is it you, freaking octomom, responding? you think it's healthy to try and carry multiples? not only is it difficult once they are brought into this world, but you could potentially put the other babies at risk as well as yourself...

she was asking for advice and referrals for doctors - not a holy intervention.

Ignore the PP who spewed her anti-choice opinions. She has no idea what your situation is and should just stay out of this discussion. UGH!

I also have a friend who faced this decision and chose to go to Philly to have the procedure. My thoughts are with you during what I am sure is an overwhelming and difficult time.

Not PP, but how is offering a website not answering a request for advice and referrals. There are other options. The OP can chose to ignore them if she wants. Why can't someone offer a another suggestion? The OP didn't ask you to tell her what to do.

Listen Asshat, the PP asked if anybody had been advised to reduce a pregnancy and if so, which doctor they used. Not, were you advised to reduce and decided against it?

Whatevs, stick to the original question. We're just asking people to answer the original question, not spew forth their personal opinions about the OPs situation.

You call it holy. I call it unwanted bullshit. She has a message and she's sticking to it. How is that website going to help OP carry, give birth to, and take care of triplets? That poster doesn't give a flying hoot about the OP.
