| Anyone got notified if their child was selected for new enriched Literacy Curriculum in 4th grade? |
| I don't think it's even been decided which schools are doing it let alone which students within which schools. |
Then how do teacher get trained in time for the start of next year? Does MCPS pull teachers in during the summer and train them?? |
| Yes, summer training. |
I thought teachers get the summer off, then return some time in mid-August for admin related tasks. Can an MCPS teacher comment on this? |
We've known for about 2 weeks (since right after CES letters came) that our school is part of the pilot, and the preliminary lists were meant to come out 1 May. |
| My kid's school is implementing it starting this fall. 26 school have been offered ELC. |
Do you by chance have the list for the 26 schools, or plans of roll-out for the other ES going forward over the next several years? Is it available on the MCPS website? Our staff development teacher have not mentioned anything so my assumption is our ES is not on the list for next year, but I would be interested in plans going forward. |
I'm at a school that piloted it this year. We just got the names of the students who will be in the course for 4th grade next year. The current 4th grade ELC kids will continue with it in 5th grade. The 5th grade teacher who will be teaching the course has one day of training in June. |
Thank you! |
Training: One day this summer, and I'm pretty sure there is additional training provided throughout the school year. Roll out: It was a pilot this year and I think is still being called a pilot next year. I was told schools were invited/chosen b/c they had a large group of students needing enrichment identified through the CES selection process. |
17:37 here - our 4th grade teacher had one day of training last summer and then attended a full day training prior to each marking period to review the curriculum. When we asked AEI about future training for our 5th grade teacher they said they hoped to provide on-going training but not sure if they will be able to bring them in once each marking period due to the budget. Overall it's been a great opportunity for our students. The Lucy writing curriculum is vastly superior to the goods Curriculum 2.0 was trying to push. The emphasis on William & Mary and JGB was also appreciated by the teacher and her students. I see no reason why the ELC shouldn't be made available to all students. |
| Which schools? Why won't folks name the schools? |
so you are saying you have already got the names of the students who will be in the ELC for 4th grade this fall? |
| I never heard of the ELC but my DC is moving up to 4th grade in fall. Sounded like this program started piloting last year, correct? This coming year more school will join the pilot? Do schools volunteer to do so? |
