MITRE is hiring even though there will be additional RIFs. Very common to hire during layoffs because you're looking for skill sets that the employees being laid off don't have.

RAND has the staff with skill sets that GER needs. The problem is GER doesn't want to hire RAND staff on their projects.

I understand you feel that way. Nonetheless, no one is closing positions because it would look bad to be hiring during RIFs, because that's a completely normal thing that organizations do. You should assume RIFs will happen as contracts get cancelled or not renewed.

How do you know? You sound like RAND HR.

This is a risky bet since the lifespan of GPUs is around 2 years before they become obsolete.
MITRE negotiated for/committed to the supercomputer during the Biden Admin. The MITRE system isn't particularly high end, though obviously a significant investment. It was perhaps a reasonable investment given a then/then expected semi-rational Federal Government and a MITRE annual research budget of about $100M per year. Given semi-rational isn't what we've ended up with, it's hard to imagine how it'll pay off.

This response is weird and sounds corporate. RAND must be in really bad shape if in fact their management is monitoring this silly website…

The Federal Government has an entire HPC ecosystem with shared supercomputers at various locations. Certainly, the Federal Government does not need to buy computer time from MITRE. Not sure what the revenue model might be.

Tell me you’ve never run a large org before without telling me.

The RIF is another 600 people by August 11th. One more RIF "potentially" in October.

It is Aug 11 … did the RIFs materialize?

MITRE ATT&CK, ATT&CK Evaluations, and the CTID are merging

Is this really accurate? There is a WARN notice for the June RIF (442 ee's) but I did not find any others for this year.

Some MITRE RIFs have/will happen this week. IDK how many.

From my experience, the CEO normally sends a somber company-wide email later in the week the RIF is implemented informing of the event and noting the number of positions eliminated.

My husband works in HR and says that mid-week is when layoffs typically occur.
