But also, he's using his body to evoke all sorts of responses with specific postures. the whole thing is a dance, even when he's not "dancing" like when he strikes the Jim Crow pose to shoot the guy in the hood (who was Trevon Martin's dad when he was playing the guitar) or when he's standing still, just a black male body standing kind of slouchy with low pants and no shirt is such a charged image in America, even before the gun hands pose and the other dance moves. If you told me he's normally fatter or fitter and he dieted/ate just for this video I would not be shocked (I don't think that's true though I think that's how he normally is). That video is like he has electrodes in your brain and he is just setting them off whether you want him to or not. His face is incredible, he knows exactly how to move from "silly" to "scary" and he can do that and still convey a little contempt at you for being on the roller coaster he just took you on. That video is insanely good, really important art. |
