Booked Tickets on Norwegian Air and Can't Use Them

Anonymous
There's a serious illness in my family and we can't go on our trip to Europe. This means I just eat the price, right? Not likely to use the tickets anytime soon so I can't change them.

Do you have travel insurance? Assuming not. Some credit cards include travel insurance you might not even know of, so worth asking the card you used to buy tickets. Also airline might decide to reimburse with documentation of the health issue.

Thanks. Calling Chase Sapphire right now.

You usually have a year to use the fare credit (less the change fees).

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be flying Norwegian anytime in the next year.

Can you buy insurance now? Then cancel?

Plan a trip

Get a credit for a future trip. Force yourself to take the trip to use the credit.

My spouse needed emergency surgery so we had to cancel our trip to Hawaii. We ended up using the flight credit for a trip to the Caribbean later on (first class given the credit).

I appreciate all of the advice about forcing ourselves to take the trip but Norwegian doesn’t fly from our home city. We had an elaborate summer plan that included visiting family and then flying from there to vacation. Not sure we’d be able to make it worthwhile to buy five tickets from our home to a city serviced by Norwegian to use the credit. Without three kids, sure we’d do it, but as a family of five it doesn’t seem realistic. Fingers crossed on the chase travel insurance.

After seeing your update, is there anyone in your life who might want to use the credit and could give you cash? Or did the tickets have to be used in your name?

Does Norwegian have alliance partners the credit can be transferred to? And definitely call chase sapphire

Can you fly cheap airlines to or from Norway and us the Norwegian as a way to get to Europe? Could you vacation there and have friends or family from home country meet you there?

Right. That's why I'm confused why the op can't figure out a way to use the credit. Norwegian must fly into NY, right? So drive up to NYC and use the credit.

This is OP. We actually live in Centeal America. We’d need to take and expensive flight to use our cheap tickets.
