Wondering if all IB HS offer AP classes. I read on the Lee HS thread AP classes were added several years ago to stop pupil placing out. In another thread about Robinson secondary, a parent mentioned Robinson offers AP and IB classes. Why were AP classes added at Robinson?
Is this true for all IB HS in FCPS? Is there a IB program with only IB classes? |
| Robinson does |
| South Lakes offers one—AP Govt. But that is ending after this year. |
No IB high school in FCPS offers close to a full menu of AP courses. |
| IB classes are just as good as AP ones, and internationally recognized. |
| Mount Vernon offers AP Statistics and AP Government. |
The true AP schools usually have 25-30 AP courses. |
| Which AP courses are offered at Lee? |
| Robinson offers 5 AP courses: US history, US Govt, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Comparative Government in addition to all the IB courses (there over 60 IB courses, but these include courses for which there are 2 year sequences, each of the higher levels of language offered, and standard and higher level versions of many classes). |
If you prefer AP, five classes don’t cut it. Lots of kids transfer to Lake Braddock. |
| Marshall does not offer any AP classes |
Yeah, South Lakes loves killing off what little good it has. |
|
Lee offers the following AP courses:
AP World History AP US Government AP US & Comparative Government AP AB Calculus AP BC Calculus AP Statistics AP Computer Science Principles AP Art: Art History |
That’s not many. What about sciences? Economics? Languages? Does anyone know how many students enroll in AP classes at Lee? |
And if you prefer iB you go to Robinson --as we did when we had the choice. But it was nice to have the AP courses sophomore year as a supplement to the IB sophomore year before the IB diploma begins. We're so lucky to have this flexibility and to have a large enough system where there are so many options. Friends in more remote locations talk of having 5 AP courses total offered in their school--with no IB. |
