Is your Ped. offering the H1N1 vaccine?

Anonymous
I am disappointed that my ped, Capitol Medical Group, is not offering the vaccine. Does anything know why?

I fully understand the administrative burden on a ped. practice to provide vaccines, but I think this is a global health crisis and they should step up to the plate if they truly care about their patients and families. CMG is one of the largest practices in the area.

I am due in a few weeks and so I need to get my 2 other children vaccinated.

Is your ped. offering the vaccine?

Yes, Takai, Hoover, Hsu, and Associates in Germantown. They aren't taking sign-ups yet, but will when the vaccine is actually available.

I'd be interested to know why certain pedi groups aren't going to offer it. Do they think it's an unsafe vaccine? Not enough interest in their patients? Didn't sign up in time as a registered provider?

yes, Georgetown Peds said they will have it sometime in the next week or so.

Is it because they don't know if/ how much they'll get? My pediatrician said DC would get it at his 9 mo appt in a few months.

Our Ped said they signed up for the vaccine but they haven't been notified yet whether or not they will receive the vaccine.

Our pediatrician said their practice has ordered the vaccine, but there's no guarantee when it will arrive and how much they'll actually receive. Once it comes in, priority will be given to the highest risk patients - she mentioned kids with respiratory issues and babies specifically.

Spring Valley Peds. will have it.

OP, what reason did CMG give? that's our ped. too.

Did you talk to someone at CMG OP? I ask because their web site says "AT THIS TIME" they are not offering. Which makes sense the vaccine is only being shipped this week. They might be offering it later when the shipping and ordering process is not so chaotic.

The web site says "at this time, they are not planning to administer" the vaccine.

you guys, many many people clearly have already had it. Regular flu is still dormant and there is no other explanation for the many cases of flu-like illnesses (low fever etc for a few days). I am pretty sure my kids had it--the docs suspected it. And it was soooo not a big deal. If you or your kids have compromised immune systems and/or complicating conditions (asthma, etc) then you should get the vaccine. Otherwise, why all the fuss and worry???

Hmmm ... we've had that & so have all the kids in the classes of 2 local schools that my kids go to. No-one's mentioned swine flu. Couldn't it just be a cold?

I was told that anything with FLU-LIKE symptoms (ie not just runny nose but a low fever and even slight cough that lasts for several days) is likely the swine flu! This is based on a CDC briefing to schools that our school admin attended...

OP, when did you notice that CMG's web site said they're not planning to administer? DS saw Dr. Finkelstein last week for an ear infection and he said they were trying to get the vaccine but didnt know when they would. And commented that the web site isn't all that well maintained and I should just call every couple weeks. But I dont remember the web site saying they wouldn't administer, only that they werent doing so now.

Front desk staff told me they weren't planning to offer b/c the peds didn't feel like they knew enough about the vaccination. That was about 2 weeks ago. They said to check the CDC for listing of other places to get it if we want it.
