So, this young man deserved to die for traveling to a country that has a brutal regime? Just say it if that is what you believe.

No one said he deserved to die. But lots of people get what they don't deserve, and we don't start nuclear wars.

Very few people here have advocated nuclear war. In fact, I believe it is only one angry poster saying this.
But, I do believe our government should do everything they can to work for the release of Americans unjustly detained.

can you explain exactly what "do everything they can to work for the release of Americans unjustly detained" mean? in terms of actions to be taken, especially with a country with which we have no diplomatic relations, we are not friendly with, under sanctions.

do you know exactly what the Obama administration did in the past year? what steps they took? which channels they tried? people here saying that he did nothing, what do they know exactly?

if Trump was so successful, how come NK released only a kid on the brink of death but kept the other three prisoners?

No one knows what Obama did because he didn't do a GD thing.

NK released him because they did not want him to die on NK soil. It's already a lose-lose for them and they know not to make it even worse.

+1,000,000 - Obama is a COWARD.

Someone clearly wandered over from FFX Underground.

His family has shown great strength and grace through all this. Not sure I could do the same.

+1

+2. Having listened to Mr. Wambier since Otto's return, I am am even more convinced that better angels on earth abound. Peace by with the family and Otto.

What does this mean?

Mr. Warmbier seemed angelic to me, in his responses and body language to the press questions about his son. A perfect demeanor: one I could never have achieved and one where I knew Otto Warmbier was now at peace and in angelic hands. If you haven't seen his press conference, please do look.

So angelic he couldn't help but politicize it . Yeah very angelic indeed

Quite the contrary. This man went out of his way NOT to politicize it. When asked if the Obama administration could have done more, his answer was simply “The results speak for themselves.” He was asked questions about what our government did or didn’t do. He answered those questions honestly and as “apolitical” as he could. He didn’t lie.
This family was told to “lay low” for several months. Meanwhile, they made repeated trips to DC to talk with lawmakers, ambassadors, anyone who would listen and to no avail. They never met with Obama. Not sure they ever spoke with him.
When Trump came to office, Tillerson took this case on right away. He enlisted the assistance of the Swedes and State Department Special Representative Joseph Yun. This is the man that negotiated, with N Korea, for his release.
I wouldn’t blame the parents one little bit for being angry that their so-called “strategic patience” was wasted energy, but he didn’t come across as angry at all. He was thankful for the time he was able to spend with his son.

Exactly.

If this is correct, I have a lot of respect for Tillerson. Kerry was one of the worst secretary of state so far. And if he didn't use any of his expertise in this case, shame on him.

It doesn't really matter whether PP posts on another forum. Clearly Obama failed miserably to secure Warmbier's release, and now we are waiting to see what steps Trump will take to retaliate against the scum of the earth North Koreans.

Yes I do believe by ignoring his own government guidelines in regards to travel in n Korea , he forfeited his right to be alive .

Do you also believe that a citizen who either ignores or willfully defies police commands also forfeits his right to be alive?

If the verdicts that we've seen handed down in this country are any indication then the answer is yes . But congrats on the apples to oranges comparison

You're a special kind of stupid.

So you are saying my comment, or rather I myself, am stupid. Please elaborate given the recent turn of events.

The doctors said his breathing was not assisted. I’m not sure what other life support would be needed, other than a feeding tube. And, it can take a long time to pass when a feeding tube is removed.

So then they did not take him off life support, and he was not "brain dead".

Sometimes people can wake up after years from a coma that involves only certain functions of the brain.
It is possible that he had other injuries, and that he really died of a combination of health issues from the maltreatment he suffered.
So very cruel to only tell his parents two weeks ago, that he had been in a coma for a year.
So cruel and unnecessary; why did they not release him sooner?

Very tragic, all of it, and that his family only got a few days with him.

Interesting that a PP's ER doc husband would commen on cause of trauma, because my ER doc husband said the same.

Asphyxiation is a likely possibility and leaves no trace. We do not know whether it was torture or self-inflicted, but it perhaps North Korea would have revealed the cause of the coma if it have been suicide attempt? Or perhaps it did, but the US government chooses not to disclose it? And that's where conspiracy theories start and I venture no further.

What's sad is that he died.

I hope others don't suffer the same fate, ie, aren't clueless enough to go to North Korea. Talk about entitled Americans going where they're not welcome.
