If Republicans ran candidates who had a basic sense of human decency, they would compete, and win a few seats. Democrats would be a majority anyway based simply on so many Fairfax County voters liking Democrats. But we get to a 12-0 monopoly only because Republicans consistently prove they are unworthy of any respect at all. Maureen Brody is a fascist and terrorist who admits to getting teargassed trying to storm the U.S. Capitol in the January 6 terrorist attack. Harry Jackson is a violent wife-beating thug and rancid bigot who has no place in civilized society. Tony Sabio exposed himself on Twitter as fascist Trump trash approving of violence to keep/put Trump in power. The list goes on. The dimwits here championing this pathetic lot of losers are, well, yourselves a pathetic lot of losers.

I'm curious what you creatures on the GOP side think you're going to get for all this. You just lose everyone's respect whenever people IRL match you with your musings. This wasn't "well said." If it were "well said," PP would have found a few other words to use besides "rancid" and "fascist," both of which made PP look silly and unhinged. And at a time when we see on the global stage the negative consequences of extreme polarization, demonizing one's political adversaries to this degree - particularly when we all know Democrats will retain control of the School Board and the only issue is whether there's room for any contrary perspectives - is wildly over-the-top and unnecessary.

In a more relevant scenario to schools in FCPS, the entire Democrat School Board and Superintendent acted as fascists by overthrowing the right of members of the community to have their voices heard through the results of the survey created by the same FCPS. They did so because an overwhelming majority of parents, students, and staff didn’t agree with their proposed approach on how to teach sex-ed and the inclusion of gender identity. In the words of Superintendent Reid, “Honestly, the majority doesn’t always dictate, right?”

Come to think about it, they resemble more a dictatorship, which may be why some posters in this thread don’t seem to connect the fascists at the all Democrat School Board with the need to replace them.

The survey was flawed. Easily spammed by RWNJ parents.

It’s always a “heads I win, tails you lose” situation with the current School Board when it comes to public input.

If the input supports their position, it will be touted as “strong public support.” If it does not, the results will be ignored or discounted, with a typical pretext being that a survey was flawed.

I am not happy the direction the schools are going. I don’t know how to send that message other than voting for a different party. The current board and FCPS is too complacent about keeping the current chaotic status quo. I don’t worry about any republicans having full power. I just want to send a message that says we don’t like how the majority is running things.

Independents have no realistic chance at winning a School Board race in Fairfax, and those seeking a party endorsement are expected to support other candidates endorsed by the same party. There was an independent running in Dranesville in 2019, and he actually had money to spend on a campaign, and he still got very few votes.

It's unfortunate the local GOP endorsed Brody in the first place (in my opinion), but it won't keep me from voting for Paul because I've listened to him in person and he comes across as reasonable. He would also break up the all-Democratic monopoly on the School Board, which has resulted in an echo chamber and a lack of meaningful debate over the past four years. It's been a textbook example of "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

OK. I found the feed and without even having to register on this site came across at least one repost of a “gay slur,” along with with a lot of other reposts of far-right material.

I won’t vote for her for SB, but neither will I ascribe her views to every other GOP-endorsed candidate any more than I’d ascribe the political views of Abrar Omeish to every candidate endorsed by the FCDC.

Some candidates (Bartkowski) have actually ENDORSED her. The question for them is (a) did they not know / clueless or (b) did they not care / yikes!

Independents have no realistic chance at winning a School Board race in Fairfax, and those seeking a party endorsement are expected to support other candidates endorsed by the same party. There was an independent running in Dranesville in 2019, and he actually had money to spend on a campaign, and he still got very few votes.

It's unfortunate the local GOP endorsed Brody in the first place (in my opinion), but it won't keep me from voting for Paul because I've listened to him in person and he comes across as reasonable. He would also break up the all-Democratic monopoly on the School Board, which has resulted in an echo chamber and a lack of meaningful debate over the past four years. It's been a textbook example of "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

No one forced Bartkowski to endorse this right-winger so prominently on his website.

Or forced him to post looney stuff on his Facebook/Twitter.

That was all his choice.

Paul is a great guy (very involved in neighborhood activities and his kids' sports). If the trolls on DCUM want to tear him down, that's a good sign.

Conversely, I'm not impressed by his opponent. More of the same.

I think anyone voting for the GOP wants just that. They just want a new SB to stop the initiatives of the current SB. No need to present new ideas. It wouldn't be hard to return to FCPS from 10 years ago. No need for new ideas.

New ideas are exactly what's needed, and what another 12-0 Democratic board won't offer. The local Democrats don't just want to have a majority on the School Board; they want to occupy every seat so that individual members can continue to scratch each other's back, engage in blatant self-dealing, and get away with it with no one calling them out (and certainly not in a public setting).

The Washington Post recognized the pitfalls of such total dominance when it endorsed Pat Herrity for re-election to prevent an all-Democratic Board of Supervisors. The same considerations apply in full force to the School Board elections - residents will be much better served in the long run if we have folks like Saundra Davis and Paul Bartkowski on the board to question what the likes of Karl Frisch are trying to shove down everyone's throat.
